Govt to scrap fixed tax, waive FAC on electricity bills
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced scarping of fixed tax imposed on traders in the budget and also waived fuel adjustment charges (FCA) on electricity bills for millions of consumers. While admitting that imposed fixed tax was a fault, the premier said neither he wanted nor he directed the finance ministry to impose such tax on traders. “[Waiver] will create a gap of Rs42 billion tax revenue but we are not going to take any step that will create difficulties for our small traders,” he said. It’s been withdrawn.”Speaking about inflated electricity bills, PM Shehbaz said fuel adjustment charges – linked to international fuel prices – witnessed an exorbitant rise due to which additional charges were imposed on the electricity bills. “I took notice of this [inflated electricity bills] and on the instructions of [PML-N supremo] Mian Nawaz Sharif… we have decided to waive additional charges from the electricity bills of 17 million consumers out of a total 30 million,” the premier said.

Section 144 imposed in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD – The Hyderabad Range police have enforced Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to prevent assembly of more than four persons at any place in all nine districts of Hyderabad division. DIG Hyderabad Peer Muhammad Shah here on Monday directed all the SSPs in the Range to enforce the ban on the directives of Commissioner Hyderabad division Nadeemur Rehman Memon. The ban has been enforced in the wake of the alleged desecration of Holy Qur’an incident in Hyderabad. The business community should extend cooperation with the police and law enforcement agencies so that peaceful atmosphere could be restored completely at the earliest, they urged. Meanwhile, Commissioner Hyderabad Nadeem ur Rehman Memon has imposed Section 144 CrPC and prohibited the assembly of four or more persons in Hyderabad Range with immediate effect till August 24, 2022

Importance of Ideas
These advertisements are mostly based on, or inspired by, foreign media, depicting their culture, having nothing to do with us. I fail to understand why such silly ideas are adopted by the advertising agencies, and approved by the clients concerned. Wasting money on poor advertisement content hardly makes any sense. I think our educational institutions lack research-based education to prepare our marketing professionals to indulge in original thinking and to come up with ideas keeping in view our culture and ethics. We need to think over this and review our advertisement content policies.

Pakistan reports 416 coronavirus cases, 3 deaths in 24 hours
Pakistan has reported two deaths in the last 24 hours by coronavirus as the number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 1,566,652. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 30,555 on Monday. According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 416 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 16,764 tests in the past 24 hours. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 2.48 percent.

Parents cry foul: Sikh schoolteacher coverts to Islam; marries Muslim youth
SWAT: A schoolteacher Dina Kumari, belonging to the Sikh community of village Pacha Kale in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accepted Islam and got married with youth of her village. The parents of Dina and local Sikh community members, however, demanded action against the youth, alleging that the girl was kidnapped and forced to marriage. The Sikh community blocked the main highway in protest to register a case of abduction of a Sikh girl. On the other hand, Buner police took Newly Muslim Dina and her husband Hizbullah into custody from Shangla District and produced them in the court.
