Trial begins in graft case against PK Halder, 13 others
A court framed charges against the former managing director of NRB Global Bank Proshanta Kumar Halder alias PK Halder and 13 others in a case lodged for allegedly amassing illegal wealth and laundering money abroad on Monday. Apart from Halder, the other 13 accused in the case are- Lilabati Halder, Purnima Rani Halder, Uttam Kumar Mistry, Amitabh Adhikari, Pritish Kumar Halder, Rajib Som, Subrata Das, Ananga Mohan Roy, Swapan Kumar Mistry, Avantika Baral, Shankha Bepari, Sukumar Mridha and Anindita Mridha. PK Halder, along with five others, were detained in Ashoknagar of the Indian state of West Bengal in the morning of May 14, 2022. On March 1, 2021, PK Halder fled Bangladesh through Jessore's Benapole land port. According to media reports, PK Halder possessed two passports -- one Bangladeshi and the other Canadian -- but he used his Bangladeshi passport to go to India.

Punjab govt utilising all resources to help flood victims, says Minister
SARGODHA – Provincial Minister for Transport Muneeb Sultan Cheema said on Sunday that flood affected people would not be left alone in this time of trial, and the Punjab government was utilizing all available resources to provide relief to them. Addressing the transporters and traders during his visit to Sargodha General Bus Stand, he said that recent heavy rains and floods had wrecked havoc in the country and the affected people were waiting for help. “We all should join hands with the army, administration, welfare organizations and help the flood-hit people as per the capacity,” he added. He said the whole nation had to work unitedly for the country’s stability and prosperity.Ch Muneeb further said that Sargodha General Bus Stand was the most beautiful bus stand in the country which would be provided all unavailable basic facilities. The ongoing floods have caused unprecedented devastation across the country, so far taking the lives of more than 1000 people, displacing more than 30 million, and wrecking property and infrastructure worth billions. Alarmingly, experts are of the view that the damage has only just begun—and that the actual floods are just half of the problem. A host of issues and crises relating to health are bound to emerge after the floods. In the past, floods have been deadly but a larger number of lives have been lost due to the aftermath of floods, which leave the population vulnerable to water-borne diseases. This is a disaster waiting to happen, and if not controlled, could double or triple the fatality rate of these floods.

Army conducts daring rescue op to save citizen in Kohistan

In order to help the flood victims, 7,522 Pakistan Army troops have been deployed along with 50 boats, whereas 25 field medical camps have also been established.

Pakistan reports 270 coronavirus cases, three deaths in 24 hours
Pakistan has reported three deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 1,568,453. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 30,574 on Sunday. According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 270 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 16,871 tests in the past 24 hours. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 1.6 percent while 118 people are still in critical care.

Payments Halted
Back in 2020, the Supreme Court passed a judgement that allowed the government to recover Rs.453 billion through the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC). Now, the future of gas pipeline development hangs in the balance. They further claimed that on account of not passing the cost onto their consumers, there is no responsibility to deposit the cess. The GIDC was implemented on the provision that the government would take the necessary steps to commence work on projects like the NorthSouth gas pipeline, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (Tapi) within six months of the judgement. Clearly, many have lost confidence in the GIDC scheme and the government must provide some clarifications to revive it.

6-member flood relief committee constituted in PGM
LAHORE – Keeping in view high climate situation of floods, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute, Ameer Uddin Medical College, Lahore General Hospital Prof. Dr. Muhammad Alfreed Zafar has constituted a special Relief Committee comprising upon 6-members who would start its activities immediately. Moreover this relief committee will receive donations in the form of rations, medicines, clothes and cash for relief activities and rehabilitation of flood hit areas. It is mentionable that Prof. Muhammad Hanif Mian will be headed of this Relief Fund Committee while Dr. Muhammad Irfan Malik, Dr. Rizwan Farooq, Dr. Imran Hayat, Dr. Jahanzeb Aqeel and Dr. Ahmed Faraz are included in the members of this relief committee. He also requested to the citizens and the medical community to donate generously in the relief committee constituted by PGMI/LGH. He said that this relief committee is one step in the right direction which will be a foot step to be followed by others.

BISE to announce Matriculation results on 31st
