2000 plus clubs use Connect Program for registration
LAHORE – The preliminary progress for the elections of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has practically started as more than 2,000 clubs and academies have applied for registration in the ‘Pakistan Football Connect’ program. According to PFF NC spokesman, more than 1500 administrators have received the responses of the NC through emails while the process of verifying the information provided by the clubs and academies is in progress. “After the completion of this process, the applicants will be given direct access to the website through emails.” He added that the registration process would determine the actual structure of Pakistan football clubs, coaches and officials, on the basis of which the FIFA-nominated NC will complete the PFF election process as per its mandate.”

Smallholder agriculture — emergence of production clusters
Land holdings in Pakistan are high inequitable with 2% of farmers owning 45% of all agriculture land while 98% owning the remaining 55%. However, building up an export oriented manufacturing and services sector will take effort, time and investment. Demand for high value products, both crops and livestock, is rising rapidly both inside Pakistan and in the region. One way this is happening is through the creation of production clusters — a geographic area specialising in one particular crop. Similar developments are taking place in the livestock sector with specialised production units of 5-50 dairy animals cropping up in and around urban centres.

Crackdown against smoky vehicles launched
MULTAN – City Traffic Police (CTP) has decided to launch a comprehensive crackdown against smoky vehicles causing environmental pollution and smog. In a directive issued by the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Hassan Afzal on Thursday, the CTP officials in collaboration with the environment department officials launched a crackdown against smoky vehicles. The crackdown was being started to control environmental pollution and smog. The officials have been directed to check all vehicles especially the vehicles using sub-standard CNG cylinders. The education unit asked drivers to take precautionary measures for controlling environmental pollution.

Cycling, football events held in SOP-organized National Games
LAHORE – The National Games 2022 under the shadow of Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) ended after three days of cycling and football competitions. The players from Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the Games. Along with this, Special Olympics Pakistan Chairperson Raunaq Lakhani and Vice Chairman Anees-ur-Rehman also graced the concluding ceremony as guests of honour. Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) General Secretary Moazzam Khan Klair congratulated Vice Chairman of SOP Anees-ur-Rehman on holding the National Games successfully and also distributed medals and shields among the winning athletes. The Special Olympics Pakistan, under the dynamic leadership of Raunaq Lakhani, has been doing great work and hopefully, these special children will excel at international level and win global glories for Pakistan.”

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has warned his rivals against “pushing him against the wall”, saying he will reveal the names of all those allegedly involved in intimidating him and his supporters. “I am being pushed against the wall through bogus FIRs of terrorism and others… journalists who speak in our favour are being subjected to victimisation. The more you suppress my party, the more we will rise,” he said while addressing a rally in Punjab’s Sargodha on Thursday. “I have been tolerating this for the last months but don’t push me to the point where I expose all faces who created all this mess for their vested interests,” he added. After by-polls results, they got scared that if early elections are held I will secure two-third majority, he said.

Govt mulls taking another IMF loan for floods
The sources said Finance Minister Miftah Ismail had this week informed the Prime Minister Office that the finance ministry was considering reaching out to the IMF for an emergency assistance package. Due to the 2010 super floods, the economic growth rate had slowed down by 2% and the economic losses had been estimated at $9.7 billion. The finance ministry sources said that the agriculture sector growth may shrink 1.8% as against the pre-flood target of 3.9%. The major hit is coming from the important crops’ side, which will see a contraction of 18% over the growth rate of the previous fiscal year. The finance ministry sources said that the growth rate in the industrial sector could slow down to 2.8% instead of its target of 5.8%.

Alvi urges nation to generously donate funds for flood victims
President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday called upon the nation and the international community to donate generously in cash and kind to the government-approved funds and registered organisations, including the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, for speedy relief to the flood affectees. Saim’s sparkling 92 steers Sindh to second consecutive success

Left-arm pacer Mir Hamza provided Sindh a solid start by removing both Northern openers – Hasan Nawaz and Ali Imran – in back-to-back overs. Hamza returned 3-33 and Sohail Khan picked up 2-38. Navy extends flood relief activities in different areas

Pakistan Navy, along with civil administration and various philanthropist organizations is providing continuous assistance to the people of flood stricken areas.

IHC orders removal of Azam Khan’s name from Stop List
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday ordered the removal of the name of Azam Khan, former principal secretary to ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, from the Stop List. The IHC also directed Azam to appear before the parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) whenever summoned. Earlier during the hearing of the petition filed by ex-principal secretary, IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Athar Minallah asked as to why the PAC had summoned Azam. The IHC CJ remarked that whenever a parliamentary body summons somebody, he or she should appear before it out of respect. He reminded that this court had earlier, in its observations, said that there was no law behind the Stop List.
