Lucknow: On February 20, 2023 at Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Center Lucknow (Ministry of Culture, Government of India), art gallery no. Jaiswal, renowned photographer Anil Kumar Risal, Alok Kumar, former principal of Lucknow Art College, and senior painter Mohammad Shakeel. Int’l Mother Language Day being observed today
Share:International Mother Language Day is being observed today [Tuesday] to promote cultural and linguistic diversity. The theme this year is “Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education”. International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999. The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. The UN General Assembly welcomed the proclamation of the day in its resolution of 2002.

Govt assails Alvi for 'transgressing authority'

Resisting tyranny
My late father Nazir Ahmed Malik and uncle Dr Salim Wahid Salim, both workers of the freedom movement were taken aback. Hamid Nizami was bold with his Nawaiwaqt newspaper, and Habib Jalib was also defiant, but Dr Salim decided on direct action. In the year 1959, Dr Salim organised a hunger strike camp opposite the main gate of the Civil Secretariat. Under the watchful eyes of the press, Dr Salim was assured sympathetic consideration of his demands. The strike ended, and a life was saved but Pakistan lost track, tyranny survived and has continued since then.

Active weather returning to Tahoe through end of month, beyond

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a winter weather advisory for the region that goes into effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, and lasts for 12 hours. Snow accumulations of up to 9 inches are possible above 7,000 feet with 3 to 5 inches for the basin. Looking further ahead, weather officials are seeing a “classic” winter storm possibly developing this coming weekend into next week. “Outlooks agree with an 80% chance for below normal temperatures, and a 65% chance for above normal precipitation.

Tax the rich, help the poor, IMF advises Pakistan
Pakistan agreed to implement the Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies (MEFP), which contained policy suggestions by IMF. Emphasising that Pakistan collect taxes from the rich and give benefits to the poor, Georgieva highlighted that the country did not need debt restructuring. In separate comments, Georgieva said that money collected from the rich in the form of taxes should be spent on those who needed the government’s help. She questioned why the rich in Pakistan should benefit from the subsidies and should not pay taxes in the face of tremendous challenges. She concluded by saying that the IMF was “very clear that it wants the poor people of Pakistan to be protected”.

Imran urges SC to take notice of Yasmin-Dogar audio leak
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday urged the Supreme Court to take notice of how an audio clip was recorded and leaked featuring PTI leader Yasmin Rashid and Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar. Nation paying price of corrupt rulers’ misdeeds, says JI leader
The Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has said that the Pakistani nation is paying the price of misdeeds by corrupt rulers. He said this while addressing a press conference at the Idara Noor-e-Haq, the Karachi JI headquarters, on Friday. Rehman made it clear that the people of Karachi would not accept any such fascist attack on their rights. He asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to clear the impression that it had become a tool of Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. He asked the ECP to prioritise the democratic rights of 30 million residents of Karachi.
