Security forces kill notorious terrorist commander in N Waziristan A notorious terrorist commander Muhammad Noor alias Sarakai was killed by the security forces in Shewa, North Waziristan Tribal District. According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorist. The killed terrorist remained actively involved in high profile terrorist activities against security forces as well as kidnapping for ransom and was highly wanted by CTD in multiple cases.

All these universities are following the “Policy Guidelines for Implementation of Uniform Semester System in HEIs of Pakistan”. Govt plans to enhance regional air connectivity

Punjab demands outstanding Rs176.3b claims from Centre
The Punjab government on Saturday claimed that it is owed Rs176.353 billion by the federal government which has not released the provincial share of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award for the last seven months. The issue was raised by the Punjab Finance Minister, Mohsin Laghari along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra and the spokesperson of the Punjab government, Musrat Cheema in a press conference at the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) office. “The federal government is weakening the federation by not paying the provincial share at a time when provinces are dealing with flood disasters with their own resources,” he added. “Despite the economic crisis caused by the non-cooperation of the federal government, the Punjab government gave a package of Rs14 billion for infrastructural damage caused by the floods. This was only made possible by controlling other developmental expenses of the province,” noted the provincial minister.

Rawalpindi sees sharp rise in measles cases
Rawalpindi has seen a sharp increase in the number of measles cases in the current year despite vaccination. Around 600 measles cases were reported in Rawalpindi since January 2022. The Rawalpindi district made it to the top in terms of the number of measles cases in the province. Rawalpindi District Health Officer Dr Ahsan Ghani said that up to 600 cases were reported in Rawalpindi this year. The district health authority has developed software and response teams visit hospitals and areas where measles cases were reported.

We always cry that our nation is backward but my question is, have we taken any step for its betterment? ‘Expired dengue test kits used in Polyclinic’
A formal case was registered against the three after an initial inquiry revealed that the expired diagnostic kits were used for patients suffering from the dengue virus. In 2019, M/S Ideal Diagnostic System Rawalpindi supplied 27,960 dengue NSI test devices and 7,200 surgery test devices to Polyclinic Islamabad. Of these kits, 8,880 dengue NSI devices and 3,250 dengue serology (IGGIGJ) test devices expired in mid-2021. The contractor subsequently supplied the same expired kits to Polyclinic by tampering with the expiry dates and the two Polyclinic officials allowed their use in the hospital before Senior Chief Pharmacist Amna Bibi took custody of the expired test device on December 2, 2021. A senior drug inspector of Islamabad seized 4,865 expired diagnostic kits from the store of Polyclinic after a comprehensive inquiry.

US 'made fortune' out of Ukraine crisis, says China
China on Friday accused Washington of benefitting from the crisis in Ukraine as Europe suffers from sky rocketing inflation and energy crisis in winter. “The US has made a fortune in the Ukraine crisis, while Europe is bleeding and paying for higher energy prices due to inflation,” said Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry. He was commenting on the US Inflation Reduction Act, legislation signed in August for urgent investments to lower prescription drug costs, health care costs, and energy costs. French President Emmanuel Macron, who met US counterpart Joe Biden on Thursday, said the Inflation Reduction Act is "super aggressive" toward European companies, according to a report. China has not directly supported Russia in its military campaign, but the two countries have declared a "no limits" partnership.

PTI 'willing' to talk to federal govt on next elections
A senior leader of the PTI told The Express Tribune that the PTI was willing to talk with the federal government regarding the next election. However, he claimed that the primary issue was the “worsening economic situation” in the country. “Principally we agree that all national and provincial assemblies’ elections should be held on one date,” says PTI leader said. Confirming the development, senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in a Twitter post said that if the government announced early elections, his party was ready to negotiate framework of elections and changes in ECP. “Therefore, we should go for early elections in Punjab and continue with the federal government,” he added.
