The farmers, demanding fair crop prices, are being met with much more than just physical force. More concerning is that they are encountering a deliberate blackout of their voices, a tactic emblematic of the authoritarian tendencies of the current BJP-led regime. Such actions not only hinder democratic principles but also betray the very essence of a government accountable to its citizens. It is imperative that the government recognises the legitimate grievances of the farmers and engages in meaningful dialogue to address their concerns. Anything short of this would only fuel further unrest and deepen the divide between the rulers and the ruled.

As a nation, we are facing a perennial threat to our existence. We don’t have daring minds to rescue the nation from its current torturing predicament. The state resources and national wealth, over decades, were captured and are being plundered by the elite while masquerading as the saviour of this besieged nation. The nation has been systematically reduced to a disinterested crowd by the ruling elite. Please no more demands for sacrifices from the poverty-stricken nation.

The already impoverished region of GB is reeling with woes, crises upon crises. GB is now being stripped of a historic and decades-old stipulated wheat subsidy right granted to it during the ‘70s by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on the basis of its disputed status. The Chief Minister of GB and the local government are bereft of any genuine authority or power. When it comes to GB, national political leaders only play into the gallery, presenting a glamorised and romanticised picture of GB to their audience, oblivious to its protracted woes and tribulations. We have no dearth of local, national, and even international vloggers and documentary makers to depict its natural beauty.

Washington WatchThe message sent last Tuesday by more than 100,000 Michigan Democrats who cast their ballots for “uncommitted” was crystal clear. In the first place, it’s always hard to mobilize people to vote “uncommitted” as a protest. It should be recognized that turning out over 101,000 “uncommitted” votes was a massive undertaking that far exceeded expectations. Because some states like Michigan can go either way, they are heavily contested. They had no meetings with national Arab American leaders to discuss policy, making do instead with failed attempts to meet with Michigan Arab Americans trying to secure their votes.

Prosser, WA In the pursuit of enhancing almond genetic diversity for the ever-expanding global demand, researchers have delved into a private almond germplasm collection, shedding light on the potential for new cultivars adapted to diverse growing conditions. The study compared the genetic diversity of the private IPPFBE germplasm collection, which focuses on Central Asian origins, with the existing NPGS collection maintained near Davis, California. Through DNA fingerprinting using 10 simple sequence repeat markers, this research revealed insights into the diversity of these almond accessions. Two Prunus bucharica accessions from the IPPFBE collection stood out, displaying distinctive genetic traits compared to the rest of the collection. Analysis of the IPPFBE collection indicates that although it and the NPGS collection are broadly similar, the new material contributes positively to the genetic diversity of almond germplasm.

Getting down to business straightaway, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave the green signal on Monday to begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new long-term bailout package. He also directed for preparing a roadmap on war footing to deal with the current situation. The suspicious absence from Shehbaz’s core economic team was former four-time finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar. Shehbaz had also included Ali Pervaiz in his core team in April 2022, but he was not brought to the table. The huddle suggests that Shehbaz Sharif is keen to pick a new economic team instead of relying on experienced hands. On the issue of next programme, the prime minister was informed about the likelihood of revenue measures and cut in power subsidies.
