Zardari makes history
Both Shehbaz and Zardari have returned to their previous roles now and sit at the pinnacle of their political careers. Despite his tumultuous political career, Zardari made history by surrendering the powers of the president during his last stint. In the Punjab Assembly, Zardari garnered 246 votes while Achakzai trailed with 100. In the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Achakzai bagged 91 votes while Zardari received 17. Notably, in the Balochistan Assembly, Zardari received 47 votes while Achakzai failed to secure a single one from the province.

Experts proposes modification in text books enriched with social, cultural values
HYDERABAD - Scholars,writers, linguistics and curriculum experts have proposed to modify text books by replacing old subjects with new one in easy language enriched with social, cultural and gender values. They expressed these views during the study workshop held here at Sindhi Language Authority to review text books of 6 to 10 classes. He said that the earlier Sindh text book was revisiting the curriculum with the assistance of experts, writers and teachers however such a process should be closed and the learning process should be started. He proposed that print alternate meanings of difficult words in the last part of text books enabling teachers to teach and students to read. Secretary Sindhi Language Authority Dr. Ehsan Danish, communicating objectives of the workshop said that Sindhi Language Authority was carrying out a process of study and training workshops on different topics and workshops on text books were conducting on priority basis.

‘Onion 300, tomato 200 rupees per kg’, the prices started talking to the sky even before Ramadan.
The profiteers gave a big shock of inflation to the people before Ramadan. Even before the holy month, the prices of food items started talking to the sky. In Karachi, onion started selling at Rs.300, tomato at Rs.200 per kg, while the capsicum used in samosa rolls was out of reach of the public and the price went from Rs.200 per kg to Rs.700 per kg in a day. Garlic started selling at Rs 1000, ginger at Rs 600, and green chillies at Rs 500 per kg in the markets of Karachi. Apart from this, veal meat is being sold for 1400 rupees while chicken meat is being sold for 700 rupees.

Vehicle crashed into Trussville restaurant
From Tribune staff reportsTRUSSVILLE — A vehicle crashed into Yu’s Garden in Trussville on Saturday, according to Trussville Police Lt. Clint Riner. Officers were called to the restaurant located at 7268 Gadsden Highway at 5:56 p.m. on Saturday. Riner said there were no injuries in the incident and the crash remains under investigation.

Modi arrived in Kashmir
Narendra Modi arrived in Kashmir to tell the people how “fortunate” they were to live under New Delhi’s administration, nearly five years after his government destroyed the region’s minimal autonomy. Srinagar was placed under lockdown to quell protests, and government personnel were allegedly told to show up while rent-a-crowds were bussed in to hear Modi speak at a stadium. It would be interesting to watch how committed the new Indian government is to finding a solution to the Kashmir issue once the election dust settles. Although proponents of the “closed Kashmir file” in New Delhi would argue otherwise, Pakistan, the UN, and the Kashmiris themselves disagree. Will India’s new administration exercise statesmanship in handling the Kashmir issue and make a daring decision?

Asif Ali Zardari secures second term as President of Pakistan

25% sales tax imposed on locally manufactured vehicles worth Rs 40 lakh
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has imposed a 25 percent sales tax on locally manufactured or assembled cars above 1400 cc or worth Rs 40 lakh. The revised SRO has been issued through a notification issued by FBR. According to FBR’s estimate, this decision will generate revenue of 4 to 4.5 billion rupees on an annual basis. According to the notification, there will be a 25% sales tax on vehicles of more than 1400 cc or vehicles worth more than 40 lakh rupees manufactured or assembled within the country. Earlier, the caretaker government’s federal cabinet and ECC had approved the levy of 25 percent sales tax.

PTI cries foul as 4 MNAs elected on reserved seats sworn in
Tensions flared in the National Assembly on Friday as the Pakistan Threek-e-Insaf (PTI), the opposition party, staged a protest during the oath-taking ceremony of four lawmakers elected on reserved seats. Despite the protest, the four newly elected members on reserved seats proceeded to take their oaths, administered by Speaker Sadiq. Ayub also criticised the timing, noting that on International Women's Day, unconstitutional oaths were taken, and women's reserved seats were allegedly "robbed." Speaker Sadiq countered, stating that no official orders had been received from the ECP or the Peshawar High Court on the matter. He said the Lahore High Court has not given any decision regarding not taking oath, adding that the decision of Peshawar High Court does not apply to Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
