Rawalpindi: Pilots and cabin crew members of the national airline Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been advised to adhere to guidelines by abstaining from fasting during travel and flights throughout the month of Ramadan. The directive came from the manager of the flight safety department at PIA, who sent out a circular to all cabin crew members, outlining guidelines regarding fasting during flights. The document warned of the potentially serious consequences in emergency situations if actions were delayed or executed incorrectly due to the effects of fasting. The directive explicitly instructed all fasting cockpit and cabin crew members to abstain from operating flights, highlighting that self-exemptions cannot be claimed even under state law. The induction of Muhammad Augrangzeb as the new Finance Minister probably marks a return to the domination of experts. Bringing in the head of the country’s largest bank means that Ishaq Dar will not be Finance Minister. Though the PM is now Shehbaz Sharif, this particular piece of sleight of hand bears the elder brother’s stamp. Ironically, that problem was faced when bringing in Mr Dar, but he has since acclimatized himself to the Senate. Mr Aurangzeb’s performance will be watched carefully to see whether a Finance Minister who does not depend on popular votes can deliver for politicians at last.

A domestically made fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Tuesday in the western state of Rajasthan, the first such incident since the jet was inducted nearly eight years ago. The pilot ejected safely, the Indian Air Force said in a statement. Tuesday’s crash breaks the jet’s safety record since its first test flight more than two decades ago, an Indian Air Force officer told Reuters. The Indian government in 2021 gave a $6bn contract to state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, opening a new tab for 83 Tejas jets. The Tejas has been beset by design and other challenges and was once rejected by the Indian Navy as too heavy.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, on Monday apologised and admitted to editing an official portrait of her released by the palace that prompted AFP and other agencies to withdraw the altered image. Her Kensington Palace office on Sunday sought to dispel rumours by distributing an official photograph said to have been taken by her husband Prince William of his wife with their three children. They included several inconsistencies such as the zip of Kate's jacket being misaligned in one place, while part of Princess Charlotte's sleeve is missing. British media outlets, often frustrated by palace stonewalling, have tended not to question official royal information, she added. Sunday's contentious photograph overshadowed the Commonwealth Day event, even without the king in attendance as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

According to a Censor Tower report, the success of Instagram compared to TikTok is probably the result of the popularity of the Rails feature. However, TikTok users are more active, spending an average of 95 minutes a day on the app, compared to an average of 62 minutes for Instagram users. The founder of Facebook said that we failed to adopt the new trend of social networking which contributed to the popularity of Tik Tok.
