The Federal Government has launched 20 high-capacity buses powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), to ease the transportation burden of civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). She stressed that the project would help reduce the cost of transportation of civil servants and further decongest the bus stops of civil servants around the Federal Secretariat, which is usually overcrowded during the close of work. Dr Yemi-Esan added that easing the transportation of civil servants has been one of the targets of her administration, adding that the government has always sought ways to achieve a healthier and safer environment for civil servants. “This pillar is targeted at addressing issues of the socio-economic wellbeing of civil servants, which if not tackled holistically, is capable of impeding the efficiency of workers,” she added. The Guardian had, on Monday, written to NNPC over the scarcity without any reply. The Guardian learnt that this was part of the reasons advanced by government officials for delaying the removal of subsidy. At any rate, if Ghana, Benin Republic, Chad, Cameroun and Niger Republic are not running fuel subsidies, why should Nigeria do it? Can they sell at the cost price and yet the NNPC is silent on the additional levies marketers are paying.

The unending conflicts between herders and farmers are driven by purely economic interests, Dr Obodo Ijie and Dr Isaac Otegwu, both of the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, Veritas University, Abuja have said. This results in some of these women and children incurring sexually transmitted diseases. He stated: “It is also largely believed that displacement and dislocation of families occur when the conflict between farmers and herders occurs. Britain is facing the highest rates of inflation since the early 1980s, with households suffering the biggest hit to their incomes since modern records began. The government has announced billions of pounds in emergency financial support, but has faced heavy criticism over its handling of the cost of living crisis as millions struggle to afford the basics. The forecasts show just how many people will fall into the red, at least temporarily, as incomes struggle to match the rising cost of living. “The current crisis is painful for households, but it should start to ease next year. Income data is for UK non-pensioners after housing costs, while the inflation rate excludes housing cost changes.

To hold that Nigeria is in a dire strait economically and that its next president has an unenviable task to fix it, is an understatement. With the parlous state of the nation’s economy, presidential candidates eyeing 2023 will need to convince the electorate on how to overcome challenges of high inflation, rising debts, dwindling revenue, high unemployment, rising insecurity among others. Without external influence, the president bears the burden of failed policies and what befalls the economy. His job will be to work for Nigerians for the Nigeria that they seek. Nigeria has some of the best brains in the world and has never been devoid of good ideas to make the nation better.
