The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, on Tuesday, summoned the Acting Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Okolieaboh Sylva over the failure of his office to lay the 2020 Audit Reports of Ministries, Department and Agencies, and MDAs of the Federal Government before the National Assembly in line with the Constitution of the landThe Chairman of the Committee, Hon Busayo Oliwole Oke (PDP- Osun) representing Obokun/ Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State handed down the order in Abuja at the resumed hearing of the Committee on queries raised against MDAs by the office of the Auditor General of the FederationHon Oke while frowning at the development declared that this was affecting the work of the parliament at looking into the financial transactions of the MDAs which would no longer be toleratedAccording to him, “as the 9th Assembly is winding down, we need to redouble our efforts at looking into all the reports already laid before the House, right now we have completed work on those from 2017 and our reports are already in the Press after which were will lay the reports before the whole House for official consideration“This is why we are inviting the Accountant General of the Federation to come before this Committee to tell us while he is yet to lay the 2020 audited regards of the MDAs before the Parliament“We need to listen to him to know where the problem is coming from so that we can wade in to resolve whatever hindrance affecting the presentation“The Minister of Finance had openly stated that the nation’s expenditures supposed its income and the ICPC also confirmed that the 2022 budget was padded by the Executive arm by several billions of Naira, Do we wind the country down? No!, what we need to do is to redouble our efforts at revenue generations as well check the books of the MDAs”The Committee Chairman consequently warned all the heads of the MDAs who have refused to appear before it over audit queries raised against them to retrace their steps and do the needful in their own interest as the Committee would have any other option than either to effect the arrest of the defaulters or for the Committee to relocate its sitting to the premises of such MDAS“We must look for the needed money to finance the 2023 budget to cater for the needs of the entire populaceThis came just as the Committee resolved to write the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emeifele over the N7m belonging to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Abeokuta said to hang in the bankThis followed the submission of the Chief Medical of the Centre, Prof Adewale Musa- Olomu the nation’s Apex bank had denied the institution access to the money 9ver a year now and that all efforts to retrieve it had proved abortiveHon Oke assured that the community would assist the Centre to recover the money from the CBN for enhancing its operations. A Professor of Soil Microbiology and Biochemistry, Lateef Taiwo, has warned farmers against the application of excessive fertilisers and pesticides on soil. The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday dismissed resumption notices by University authorities directing students to appear for lectures amidst the seven months old strike. The union said its strike remain unshakeable as those institutions were still under lock and key. A yet-to-be-identified woman has been involved in a fatal motor accident on Sunday evening in Calabar, Cross River State while allegedly chasing her husband on the highway. Eyewitnesses said the lady had allegedly spotted her husband at a Shopping Mall with another woman who she suspected was dating her husband and decided to pursue them when her husband rushed into his car with the allegedly with the lady. Air travellers, Monday, were forced to trek to get to the airport due to the blockade of the road by students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, protesting the strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022. Due to the protest, the travellers were seen trekking to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at Ikeja. It was gathered that some Lagosians were making business out of helping travellers carry their luggage to the airport. See photos below:

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has described the death of The Guardian newspapers Correspondent in the state, Mr. Joseph Wantu as shocking and devastating. Wantu died in Makurdi, the state capital earlier last week after a brief illness. Reacting to the death of The Guardian reporter in Makurdi, Ortom lamented that late Wantu died at a time when his services were most needed especially now that experienced reporters are needed to navigate through the murky political waters ahead of 2023 polls. “We shall miss his immeasurable contributions to the socio political development of our state”, Ortom stated . He expressed condolence to The Guardian Newspapers, the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) and the immediate family just as he told them to take solace in the fact that late Wantu lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.

Nigeria is losing at least N32bn daily due to the shutdown of three crude oil export terminals with a combined capacity of 580, 000 barrels per day. Operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, the 200, 000 barrels Forcados crude oil export terminal has been shut down since early August, according to findings. The second terminal, the 180,000-barrel-a-day Trans Niger Pipeline, TNP, one of two that feed Bonny oil terminal, has stopped transporting oil due to theft since June this year. However, the Nigerian police said the two oil pipelines feeding the export terminal were blown up by explosives. On his part, a lawyer advising NNPC Ltd on oil and gas projects and transactions and partner at Bloomfield Law Practice, Ayodele Oni, advised the Federal Government to provide solutions to the oil theft challenges bedeviling the country.
