Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two brothers and 53 other suspected internet fraudsters in Ibadan. The success of the operation was the result of surveillance and intelligence gathered by the anti-graft personnel of the Ibadan Zonal command of the agency. The commission’s spokesman said on Saturday that the brothers, Ogunbanjo Omotayo Olakunle and Ogunbajo Abiodun Akorede, were arrested on September 30. Arrested alongside their league at the Awa-Ijebu area of Ibadan, Oyo, items recovered from them include eight exotic cars, laptops, phones and various electronic gadgets. EFCC said that 51 of the suspects were indicted by the forensic analyses done on their devices, and that they will be charged to court after investigation is concluded.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, has directed the deployment of adequate personnel to provide protection for citizens, critical national infrastructure, and ensure the success of all activities lined up for the country’s 62nd Independence Anniversary scheduled for Saturday Nationwide. This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Force Spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Borno State Police Command has warned politicians and political party supporters to avoid speeches and actions that may cause social unrest during political campaigns in the state. The Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) University of Calabar has confirmed the loss of not fewer than eleven lecturers between January 2022 and September 2022. This was confirmed by the Chairman of ASUU, University of Calabar chapter, Dr John Edor, who spoke with our correspondent in Calabar on Tuesday. Data from the Federal Government on Tuesday indicated that the collapse of the national electricity grid that occurred the preceding day led to the crash in power generation from 3,713.1 megawatts to 38MW. Industry figures obtained from the Federal Ministry of Power showed that power generation on the grid as at 6am on Monday was 3,713.1MW, but this plunged to 38MW around 10.51am. The report further stated that industry figures seen on Monday indicated that power generation on the grid had risen to a peak of 4,100.80 megawatts on Sunday. But the latest data obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday showed that power generation on the national grid crashed to 38MW, which was the off-peak generation figure on Monday, while peak generation on the same day was put at 3,787.3MW. The present total power grid collapse is no doubt at a huge cost to the end users, the economy, all spheres of human endeavors and the nation at large.”

Two persons were feared killed on Tuesday when gunmen attacked an army checkpoint in Amodu Awkunanaw, a community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria’s South-east. Some soldiers, together with some police officers, were at the checkpoint for a joint operation when the gunmen attacked them. Days after, gunmen also killed three police officers at New Haven, Enugu North Local Government Area of the state. Gunmen, in June, attacked a police checkpoint along Agbani Road in Enugu South Local Government Area of the state. A police officer was killed in mid-June by gunmen who attacked a police checkpoint in Ibagwa-Ani, a community in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.
