Almost a year after reports came out on foreign airlines departing Nigerian runways empty, the situation has changed, but not for the better. Today, more airlines are departing without exportable goods, much to the pain of stakeholders and the loss of foreign exchange earnings worth billions of dollars yearly. It seems that Nigeria slumped in the export of agricultural produce following high rate of rejections and prohibitions overseas over poor packaging, documentation and alleged noncompliance with set standards. While regulators blame exporters for failure of due diligence, operators push back on regulatory bottlenecks, one-too-many local agencies and conflicting guidelines, high cost of freight, multiple charges and extortions even on goods that are not prohibited. The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) earlier this month, led an inter-agency team to the United Kingdom on a fact-finding mission as part of efforts to address issues that inhibit the growth of Nigeria’s non-oil export sector and curb incidences of export rejects.

The Real Estate Development Association of Nigeria has said the government’s involvement in the housing sector will not provide a lasting solution to the challenges facing it. President and Chairman of the Council of REDAN, Aliyu Wamakko, made the assertion when he spoke exclusively with the PUNCH. “You can’t go to the bank to borrow money at 30 per cent interest rate and you come out to build a house and expect it to be affordable. “The present government, when it came into power, said during campaigns that a million houses will be built per year. That is what they promised but very unfortunate that they have built 10,700 houses which have not been completed,” he said.

Eighteen presidential candidates have been recognised by INEC as those approved to contest for the chair at the Aso Rock office of the president. Even now that INEC has approved 18 presidential candidates for the contest only three seem to dominate the headlines. There are about three million internally displaced persons in Nigeria today and their situation in those camps is nothing short of miserable. The second most important issue that the presidential candidates must address in their campaign is the crumbling economy. So the presidential candidates must pay serious attention to it.

Only a few parents are aware that showing favouritism to their children can be hurtful to the other kids. Most of the innovations and disruptions that the world has witnessed happened because some people dared to ask the right questions. He premised this style on the assumption that his understanding could be exponentially enhanced if he managed to ask the right questions. But more often than not, those who seize opportunities are those who ask questions about available opportunities. Chief Salami Agbaje, who started as an itinerant tailor, eventually became very wealthy by asking the right questions and making the right move. Although, we all – myself, wife, five children – live in a one-room apartment. My daughter then woke my wife up to report what I had done to her. She woke up when she felt it on her laps and woke my wife to inform her about what had happened. I honestly don’t know what will happen. Maybe I will be taken to court, I don’t know; maybe I will be sentenced to death, I don’t know.

Marriage does not change you or your spouse. Assuming your spouse will change from physical abuse: I had engaged ladies who got beaten up during courtship by their partners. When cautioned about going into marriage with the guy, she convinced herself that it would notcontinue in marriage. In my opening remarks, the reverse was the case, as the wife got married with the assumption that her husband would never change after marriage. So, it’s foolhardy to assume that you or your spouse will change from being promiscuous.
