Spanish football federation chief, Luis Rubiales has drawn heavy criticism in his home country for kissing footballer Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth after the World Cup final in Sydney. Spain’s women beat England 1-0 to lift their first World Cup but the scenes before the trophy presentation left many in Spain uneasy, including government ministers. Only a yes is a yes,” Spain’s Equality Minister Irene Montero wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Spain’s World Cup triumph came in spite of a huge row between the squad and coach Jorge Vilda over his methods. When two people share an unimportant gesture of mutual affection, you can’t pay attention to the crap that’s being said.”

The newly inaugurated Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari said that the target of this team is not only to secure and feed Nigerians but also to export food which the country has the potential to achieve. The Minister stated this on Monday during a short reception organised by the Ministry for him and the Minister of State, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi. “What we are doing now, providing palliatives to Nigerians will never solve our problems because these are shorter terms solutions, we must look for medium and longer-term sustainable solutions that will address the problem of insecurity, food insecurity in Nigeria. “Therefore the only alternative we have is to invest in commercial agriculture, modern agriculture, irrigated agriculture, green technology, emerging technology, and so on, that is the only solution. Our population is growing in quick geometrical ratio while our food supply is dwindling, unless something is being done, we shall never get rid of these problems,” Zulum said.

In a race clouded by worries of a democratic backslide, anti-corruption candidate Bernardo Arévalo of the left-leaning Movimiento Semilla party appears to have defeated former first lady Sandra Torres and won Sunday’s presidential election in Guatemala. The Supreme Electoral Tribunal’s official results show that Arévalo received 59.1% of the vote, compared to Torres’ 36.1%, after more than 95% of the votes had been tabulated. It’s a surprise victory for the former diplomat who rekindled the campaign after the state disqualified opposition candidates for speaking out against corruption, raising concerns from rights organizations and Western allies. Achieving those goals won’t be easy for Arévalo, whose father was the country’s first democratically elected president, as Congress is set to be largely controlled by establishment parties, including Torres’ Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza. A Guatemalan court suspended his Movimiento Semilla party on the request of Rafael Curruchiche, who heads the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity and is on the US State Department’s Engel List of “corrupt and undemocratic actors.”Curruchiche said they were investigating Movimiento Semilla for allegedly falsifying citizens’ signatures – a claim Arévalo has denied.

The first year that saw the theft of Africans from Africa by western imperialists. As we reflect on the dark era of the transatlantic slave trade, Africa, particularly Nigeria, bore witness to an unimaginable saga of human suffering, exploitation and deprivation. The transatlantic slave trade tore families apart and scarred our collective memory, inflicting anguish and despair across generations. After hundred years of depletion of our human capital, through slave trade, colonialism followed with the mindless scramble and partition of African territories by European powers. Britain and other colonial masters must sooner than later, openly address the specific wrongdoings, blatant rape and exploitation of Africans and their resources.
