Budget 2023: Massive Defence spend to see personnel receive ‘biggest pay increase in over a decade’The Government is hoping to address attrition in the Defence Force with a major pre-Budget funding announcement that will deliver the “biggest pay increase in over a decade” for personnel. We need to increase Military GDP spending to 3%. Interestingly Labour have quietly ratcheted GDP military spending from just over 1% to just under 2%. TDB Recommends NewzEngine.comAny upgrade of our military is for purely defensive purposes, not for military adventure or invasions. Te Pāti Māori now declares that Aotearoa must be militarily neutral, a Switzerland of the South Pacific” said Rawiri Waititi.

Less than six months to the election and the dance is about to stop. There are not enough chairs and many of the best ones are already reserved. What are you going to do?Maybe if you went to another party they might have a better chair/people needing a seat ratio?

Jason Paris, chief executive of One NZ, initially accused NRL referees of “cheating of the highest order” in a tweet following New Zealand’s 18-6 loss to the Panthers. “However, I do believe that there is unconscious bias happening every week against the Warriors & it needs to be addressed. But Warriors great Logan Swann and Dean Bell echoed Paris’ claims and Swann has even taken the leap to contact the NRL. You can’t keep sweeping it under the carpet,” Swann, who played 195 games for the Warriors, said to Stuff.co.nz. It just speaks to the idea that they’re just indentured servants to rugby league and Australia.

The Fed seem to be making progress with its messaging and policy settings that inflation will be beaten back to its target range. This will become a very major issue if the House Republicans continue to block a resolution to their debt-limit standoff. This intransigence could go horribly wrong, although we have been here many times before, and the [artificial] limit always seems to get raised. The UST 10yr yield starts today at 3.52%, and up +8 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price is lower today, now at US$27,812 and down another -3.9% from this time yesterday.

Press Statement In Response To Stuff Article 7 May 2023https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/300867924/awful-and-targeted-librarians-teachers-fear-bitter-culture-wars-reaching-nzResist Gender Education (RGE) objects in the strongest terms to our group being named in the above Stuff report about harassment and threats against teachers, librarians, trans people and their allies, and the implication that we have participated in such behaviour. Teaching children anything else is scientifically false and psychologically damaging. Bullying of children because they are different is completely unacceptable but there are better ways to counter that than teaching children magical thinking. There is no scientific evidence whatsoever that everyone has a gender identity known only to themselves. Our objection to Pride activities is because they are now mostly about teaching gender identity ideology, not about accepting others’ differences.

Monday, 8 May, 2023 - 18:20"Releasing snippets and hiding other parts of the transcript only makes the Kiri Allan speech to RNZ more suspicious. RNZ should clear up any lingering doubts and release the whole transcript, like they did to the PM’s office," says ACT Leader David Seymour. "Written Parliamentary Questions show that RNZ didn’t have such concerns when they showed the transcript to the Prime Minister’s office. RNZ sent it to the Prime Minister’s staff the day the story broke. If there’s nothing in the transcript they have nothing to fear in having it released."

This specific section of the Prostitution Reform Act prevents migrant sex workers from working in the same safer conditions that other sex workers do.

Banks use test rates to assess would-be borrowers’ capacity to meet repayment requirements if interest rates rise. ANZ NZ is NZ's biggest home lender with a $105 billion home loan portfolio. Speaking to interest.co.nz after ANZ NZ released its interim financial results on Friday, Watson said the 25% figure for borrowers stress tested in 2020-21 was "probably about right" for ANZ NZ's home loan portfolio. Nonetheless Watson says ANZ NZ is keeping a close eye on borrowers who bought homes in 2020-2021 and whose mortgage rate may now be higher than the rate they were tested on. People have been paying down their debt because when interest rates went down they didn't readjust their home loan repayment.

Last week an Albany Senior High School student tested positive for the virus prompting the school to close. Public health officials were working out who among the school’s 1000 staff and students might not be vaccinated or immune to the disease. Auckland Regional Public Health Service said there were about 75 students and 14 staff who might not be fully protected. The Ministry of Health had also listed a possible measles exposure event in Auckland on its website. (Details about who was and was not considered immune were listed on the website).
