Meat prices rose marginally, but dairy prices fell in this UN-FAO tracking. Singapore's retail activity rose +2.2% in March and a sharp deceleration of the February rate. Given they have inflation running at +5.5% and the retail data is nominal, that suggests real retail activity is down -3.3%. The jobless rate dipped to 3.4% and their participation rate is unchanged at 62.6% so there remains plenty of capacity for more improvement. This strong labour market is supporting non-housing consumer credit growth which came in higher in March than expected.

Anti-trans hate in NZ becoming ‘genocidal’ – Disinformation ProjectHate towards New Zealand’s trans community has increased ‘substantially’, according to new data from the Disinformation Project. While the woke middle class activist base fuels a culture war the Left can’t politically win, the Right are laughing all the way to the bank.. Free speech allows her to speak, and it allows you to protest her when she speaks, but descending into a culture war where street violence is justified is simply playing into her hands. Painting everyone with woke guilt for crimes against identity politics dogma for being alarmed at the militancy on display as the Disinformation Project does feeds that culture war, it doesn’t challenge it! In the case of Three Waters, Labour’s leadership was quite happy to leave pretty much the whole thing to Nanaia Mahuta. When that happened the response of Labour’s Pakeha leadership was instructive. It is vital that Te Pāti Māori does not do the same. Regardless of the centre-left’s choice, Te Pāti Māori must not loosen its grip on the radical bunting. What if Te Pāti Māori mobilises younger voters in unprecedented numbers?

Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt has emerged as the quiet star of the Coronation ceremony – one that nobody saw coming. For the ceremony, Mordaunt was required to carry the 17th-Century Sword of State into the Abbey in the King's Procession, and continue to hold it aloft for much of the service – specifically at right angles to her body. The sword, decorated with royal symbols including the lion and union and fleur de lis, is also used during the state opening of Parliament. She had prepared for the moment though, drawing on her training as a Royal Navy reservist to ensure that she could hold it aloft for the whole ceremony. "It was one of two swords made for Charles II and only one survives.

A 33-year-old Indian-origin man has been sentenced to over 19 years in prison in New Zealand. The man is accused of sexually assaulting and fatally strangling a woman with Down syndrome. Shamal Sharma was sentenced to the minimum term of mandatory life imprisonment by Justice Edwin Wylie at the High Court in Auckland this week, the NZ Herald reported.
