New Zealand Rugby has reported a financial loss of almost $50 million for the year, but maintains it's in a good financial position. In its annual report presented at the AGM in Wellington today the NZR revealed a financial year loss of $47 million, a reversal of the $5 and a half million surplus of the previous year. Record revenue of $271m, up from $189m the previous year, was offset by operating expenses of $277m (up from $135m). Twenty-one million dollars was spent on women and girls' rugby specifically, excluding the World Cup, with an increased investment in the Black Ferns and Super Rugby Aupiki's inaugural year. "The Silver Lake transaction allowed us to inject nearly $40m into our community clubs, provincial unions, Super Rugby clubs, our players' pool, associate members and Māori rugby, while also increasing our investment in women's rugby," said Robinson.

Air New Zealand executive Iain Walker said several factors were behind the surge in air fare prices. On Thursday, the company posted improved guidance to the stock exchange, raising expected earnings by tens of millions of dollars. The improved earnings and demand come as Kiwis are paying more for airfares. Air New Zealand executive Iain Walker said several factors were behind the surge, including "demand, fuel prices, higher supplier costs, increased cost of labour, and general inflation". The earnings guidance this week showed the airline would remain profitable in the first half of this year.

Stuff has put almost all its news and content online for free since launching stuff.co.nz in 2000. It is also unclear whether significant local stories from three three mastheads with paywalls will be available to online readers nationwide without local subscriptions. One month later Stuff launched a drive to get online readers to support its journalism with donations. Business publication NBR put up a full online paywall in 2014 and eventually ditched its print edition altogether in 2020. That left Stuff as the last publisher without a paywall to get revenue from online readers - until now.

The UK-based Donovan describes the first two waves of inflation as transitory inflation for durable goods, and commodity inflation. Donovan says many developed economies are experiencing profit-led inflation in specific sectors of the economy citing the UK milk market as a recent example. "While large companies are often, rightly, criticized for this profit-led inflation, it can just as easily be small businesses. Some have strong, cyclical pricing power so higher demand means higher prices and higher profit margins. Political concerns about profit-led inflation have been gradually increasing in volume on both sides of the Atlantic."

It’s been 3 days since The Daily Blog asked questions about how someone who legally challenged marine reserves can protect those marine reserves. How did someone who challenged marine reserves in the interests of the fishing industry get placed ahead of actual Greenpeace activists like Steve Able? The mainstream media couldn’t rip that National Party muppet up for liking a gross joke fast enough, yet no intellectual curiosity over this at all? At some stage NZ Media are going to have to start questioning Green Party List right? If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media
