Car finance warning over loan woesA consumer watchdog says irresponsible lending is causing car buyers to get fleeced, with one paying $30,000 for a vehicle worth only $7000. Consumer NZ said the Go Car Finance loan was applied to a man who needed a car for a second job, but due to a bad credit score was struggling to get finance. “It makes it even harder for them to keep food on the table.”Go Car Finance has been approached for comment. The finance company’s website said some people found it better to take a car loan instead of using up cash savings. “At Go Car Finance, we don’t just provide you with a quote but a complete ownership package with car insurance, maintenance and more, so you can calculate your regular car payments and set your budget accordingly.”Consumer NZ said it supported The Salvation Army, FinCap and Christians Against Poverty (CAP) in their call for an investigation into the car finance sector.

Teachers on strike at Queens Gardens today. Photo: Stephen JaquieryThe strike action continues despite a Ministry of Education pay offer on Monday, made during bargaining facilitated by the Employment Relations Authority. But acting PPTA president Chris Abercrombie said teachers needed a pay increase that matched the cost of living. The Ministry had "remixed" its previous offer, taking some things off the table to fund a third year pay increase, such as part-time paid non-contact for teachers. The PPTA was asking for an increase of about 7% to teachers’ pay, progressively for their three year contracts, Mrs Spittle said.

The 32-year-old is likely to take at least nine months to recover and hence his participation in the World Cup is uncertain. Commenting on the possible replacements of their regular skipper head coach Gary Stead threw in names of Test captain Tim Southee and Tom Latham. Latham has captained New Zealand in 23 of the 46 ODIs games since the last ODI World Cup in England in 2019. The southpaw recently led a second-string squad in T20I and ODI series in Pakistan where they managed to draw the T20I series 2-2 and lost the ODI series 1-4. The ODI World Cup 2023 will reportedly be played from October 5 to November 19, however, the entire schedule of the tournament is yet to be announced.
