Muireann DuffyRTÉ has confirmed the appointment of Mari Hurley as the broadcaster's new chief financial officer (CFO). Ms Hurley takes over the position from Richard Collins, who left the role in October amid the fallout of the payments scandal at the national broadcaster. Ms Hurley has previously held the role of CFO at AA Ireland, the operator of the National Lottery, Premier Lotteries Ireland, and the Sherry FitzGerald Group. Details of a €450,000 exit payment made to Ms O'Keeffe emerged as RTÉ representatives appeared before the Oireachtas Media Committee last month. Ms Martin has since faced strong criticism over her handling of the matter, appearing before the Oireachtas Media Committee on Tuesday to face questions from TDs and Senators.

First-time actor Philip 'pinching himself' ahead of Dublin premiereA chance encounter at a South Roscommon Singers Circle session in Knockcroghery has opened up a whole new world for a local man, who is relishing his big screen debut and being a first-time actor in his mid 70s. “Pat heard one of my stories and he told me afterwards that's my Jamesie (the character in the film). Even though it is set in the recent past, Philip said rural life has changed so much in just a few short decades. “It was the best time of my life,” the South Roscommon man said of the filming experience. I based Jamesie on old characters I grew up with Glangevlin, not too far from where the book is set,” or the characters who visited the family when they moved to Knockcroghery.

By the time I’ve taken the obligatory photo of said coffee, that paper straw is but a distant memory. Look, I love sea turtles as much as the next girl, but don’t lie to me by saying that a paper straw will work just like a plastic one. And yes, we might also drink oat milk in our coffee, ‘because it produces fewer greenhouse gases that regular milk’. But I think drinking oat milk is a bit like training for a marathon; no one would do it if you couldn’t tell people about it. I can be a big girl, drink something with a paper straw.

For nearly two hours in Marie Jones’ engaging Irish comedy “A Night in November,” James Evans demonstrates how an actor keeps an audience glued to their every word. He is married and in a routine job handling welfare and jobless claims for people he barely acknowledges as human. The violent nature of the shouts and posturing of the fans leads Kenneth to question what he has always known. He plays one of Kenneth's office clients who doesn’t understand that Dublin is in a different country. Through March 15, Florida Studio Theatre Stage III, Bowne’s Lab Theatre, 1265 First St., Sarasota.
