Mum (Mrs Moran): Paddy has the worst teacher in the school. At the rate things are going he has no chance of doing higher for the Leaving Certificate. Paddy’s teacher is always getting them to do group work and they constantly seem to be correcting their own or each other’s work. The teacher (Claire Leyden): Paddy Moran – one of a happy bunch who are all doing well considering their own diverse starting points and ranges of ability. Mrs Moran doesn’t get the thriving dynamic between her son and his teacher because she suffers the same disadvantage as many parents, she doesn’t get to go to school!

'I don’t have a bank account': Cork taxi driver on why he won't accept cards
A Cork taxi driver said he is willing to risk facing a judge in court following a controversial decision to refuse card payments in his cab. The bold statement runs contrary to measures introduced in September 2022 requiring taxi drivers to provide cashless transaction options. This means that a physical device or terminal to accept cashless payments is now mandatory in every taxi. I am the only taxi driver in town with signs up on my taxi saying ‘no card payments’ and ‘cash only.’ It’s on the windows. Fellow Cork taxi driver Billy Murphy said digital payment options come with their own challenges.

State bodies clash over possible ‘destruction’ caused by St Stephen’s Green metro station

The OPW is in conflict with State transport body Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) over plans for a metro station at St Stephen’s Green, which the OPW said involves “demolition or destruction” in the historic park. The 18.8km line is planned to run from north of Swords to Dublin Airport, then on to Ballymun, Glasnevin, O’Connell Street and St Stephen’s Green before terminating at Charlemont, with 16 stations along the route. However, it had not been possible to reach agreement in relation to St Stephen’s Green, where the OPW “does not accept there will be no demolition or destruction”, he said. “TII is very conscious of the historical significance of St Stephen’s Green and its importance to the city of Dublin, and TII is committed to making every effort to mitigate the impacts on St Stephen’s Green,” he said.

Kremlin mocks Ukrainian plan for peace conference without Russia
Russia has dismissed Ukraine’s plan to hold a peace conference without its involvement, as Kyiv said its forces had abandoned a village near the recently occupied eastern town of Avdiivka and taken up strong defensive positions in Kupiansk to the north. Kyiv said its troops were also on the defensive in the Kupiansk area of Kharkiv region in the northeast, which was liberated in September 2022. “The main settlement [targeted by] the enemy there is still Kupiansk, where it continues to mass all its forces and reserves. In this area it also has quite a lot of different equipment and personnel… In addition, KAB [guided bombs] and Su-34 and Su-35 [fighter jets] are now being used very heavily,” said Ukrainian military spokesman Illia Yevlash. “The president is informed online about the situation at the front… He is made aware of everything instantly,” Mr Peskov said.
