Jobs in Ireland at risk as TikTok to cut several hundred jobs globallyBy Gráinne Ní Aodha, PATikTok is to cut several hundred jobs globally, with a proportion of the redundancies affecting staff at its headquarters in Dublin, the PA news agency understands. The total number of redundancies there will be in Ireland as part of the global restructuring is unclear as the redundancy process must go through the required consultation process. There are around 3,000 staff working for TikTok in Ireland currently. “Our priority is supporting affected employees through this transition to minimise the impact of the changes. “Ireland remains a hugely important base for us, and we’re continuing to hire for roles across our business here.”TikTok’s Dublin offices were moved to The Sorting Office at the Docklands in December.

The move will affect the social media giant’s training and quality teams, many of which are based in Dublin. The move comes on the same day that the European Commission announced a new investigation into child safety at TikTok. TikTok is the latest tech giant to shed jobs in Ireland so far this year, after hundreds of roles have been eliminated in a series of reorganisation and downsizing rounds. Ireland remains a hugely important base for us and we're continuing to hire for roles across our business here." TikTok could face fines of up to 6pc of its global turnover if found guilty of breaching DSA rules.

Please try again later {{ /verifyErrors }}Green energy industrialist Dale Vince was “seriously defamed” by a Daily Mail article which falsely suggested he was the subject of sexual harassment allegations, the High Court has heard. Mr Vince is suing the paper’s publisher, Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), after the article headlined “Labour repays £100,000 to ‘sex harassment’ donor” was printed in June last year. The story reported that the Labour Party was handing back money to donor Davide Serra, who has been accused of sexual harassment, while also referencing fellow donor Mr Vince. A hearing in London was told that Mr Vince was libelled by the article’s headline, image and captions, as they made readers think he was the subject of the allegations. The court heard the main image was one of Mr Vince, with another image which had his face circled, but the article said in its first two paragraphs that the allegations related to Mr Serra.

The late Catherine Barnes. The late Catherine Barnes and the local small shopJean's Journal with Jean FarrellI’m writing today about the small sweet shops that were in every town and village, long ago. All my life I have lived next door to a small shop. She set up a small shop there, with a tin roof on it. There was another small shop around the corner from our house, back then, and I want to write about it now.

We mentioned last week the uproar in Hong Kong over Lionel Messi’s non-appearance for Inter Miami in a recent friendly there, the organisers of the game having to offer decidedly peeved ticket holders a 50 per cent refund and a local newspaper alleging that “a mysterious behind-the-scenes mastermind” was responsible for Messi’s no-show in what was “a blatant attempt at humiliating Hong Kong”. All his Ballon d’Or awards were stolen”; “I used to support the Argentinian claim to the Malvinas. Today, I solemnly declare that from now on, I will no longer accept that the Malvinas Islands belong to Argentina.”Hopefully Lionel’s tweaked hamstring recovers more quickly than his relationship with Hong Kong and Chinese football fans. My wish in life is not that Eintracht Frankfurt should be champions, my wish in life is for this Nazi shit to disappear, to explode in the air, wherever it is. “Like a Brunello di Montalcino or a Sassicaia, he has returned fresh in mind and legs after five months of injury.
