It's Owl-faly County Council, as owl pair pay a visit to Tullamore officesThe work being done at Offaly County Council's Aras an Chontae offices in Tullamore attracted the interest of an unusual duo when a pair of long-eared owl fledglings began appearing on its grounds in recent weeks. Local wildlife photographer Dan Singer was contacted, and arrived in time to get an excellent photo of the owl in one of the mature trees situated next to the council offices. Ricky Whelan explained that the long-eared owl is Ireland's most common breeding owl species and is well-distributed across the lowlands of the country. He estimates that the local owl pair are approximately six weeks old.

The O’Carolan Harp Festival and Summer School has brought the name of Keadue to the world stage and much of that is due to the volunteerism of local people. The annual festival honours the legacy of the legendary harper Turlough O'Carolan and brings together musicians, artists, and enthusiasts from around the globe. The festival continues to have competitors travel from all over the globe to compete in the Arigna Fuels sponsored O’Carolan International Harp competitions commencing from 10:30am on Saturday, 3rd August. This continues to be one of the key signature events of the Harp Festival & Summer School and the committee are indebted to local sponsors Arigna Fuels Ltd who have sponsored this prestigious event since the festival started in 1978. A special concert was held in memory of former committee member the late Arthur Boyle following the official launch of the O'Carolan Harp Festival and Summer School in Kilronan Castle Estate and Spa on Monday.

Winning an Olympic bronze medal and standing on the podium are not easy moments to shake just because sleep is required. This morning McSharry qualified for tonight’s semi-final of the 200m breaststroke after finishing third in her heat in 2:23.98, which was her third-fastest time over this distance. Did McSharry think Chinese swimmers should be allowed to compete in these Olympics?
