India sends assistance to cholera-hit Zambia

Zambia has been reeling under an outbreak of cholera over the past few weeks which had prompted a closure of schools in the country. The cholera outbreak in Zambia was first detected in the autumn of 2023 but cases spiked in December. Because of the central location of the initial outbreak, the problem has spread to other parts of Zambia as well. The last major cholera outbreak in Zambia was in 2017-18, claiming 114 lives.

Wall Street warming to big shale after $250 billion of deals
This week’s $26 billion combination of two Texas oil companies is the latest in a series of deals that’s ushering in the era of Big Shale. Wall Street, which eyed the sector with skepticism for most of the last decade, appears to be all in. Diamondback Energy Inc.’s takeover of Endeavor Energy Resources LP announced on Feb. 12 topped off a year of roughly $250 billion in US oil and natural gas deals that consolidated a fractured collection of private wildcatters into larger corporations. By the end of the week, the shale explorer touched a record high and swelled its market valuation by $5 billion, even though the transaction won’t close for several months. Once the Endeavor deal is complete, Diamondback will double its market value to around $60 billion, making it a contender with EOG Resources Inc. for the title of biggest pure-play shale stock.

Dr Johl, a former Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, said that farmers should adopt the path of negotiation over their demands and also added that they should be allowed to go to Delhi.

Yemen rebels claim latest Red Sea vessel strike
Houthi naval forces "carried out an operation targeting the British oil tanker Pollux in the Red Sea" with missiles, rebel spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement. The latest attack came after the US military earlier on Friday said it conducted strikes "against three mobile anti-ship cruise missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen that were prepared to launch against ships in the Red Sea". Repeated strikes on Houthi targets by the United States, as well as Britain, have failed to halt the rebel attacks. The rebels have also vowed "response and punishment" after the US and British strikes, and say they are acting in solidarity with "the Palestinian people." European Union foreign ministers will meet Monday in Brussels to formally launch a naval mission to help protect international shipping in the Red Sea against Houthi attacks, officials said on Friday.
