DNA TV Show: How Supreme Court declared Chandigarh mayor poll verdictThis would be the first time in history that the result of an election has been declared by Supreme Court. The Supreme Court on Tuesday declared defeated AAP-Congress alliance candidate Kuldeep Kumar as the new mayor of Chandigarh. BJP had won the Chandigarh mayoral polls after the returning officer Anil Masih declared as invalid eight votes of the coalition partners. The Supreme Court has used this constitutional power to declare the results of the mayor election. The Supreme Court also admitted that if fresh elections are held, there is a fear of horse trading of councillors.

Mid-market: Sensex up over 200 pts, Nifty at 22,150 level
Sensex traded at 72,924.64, higher by 216.48 pts or 0.30 per cent as of 12.22 pm on Tuesday, while Nifty 50 traded at 22,155.95, up by 33.70 pts or 0.15 per cent. The sectoral indices traded in a mix with FMCG stocks, metal, pharma, auto, oil & gas, and IT stocks traded negative. Nifty realty stocks traded higher by 1.28 per cent at 888.05, and Nifty financial services stocks inched up by 0.90 per cent to trade at 20,733.90. In addition, nifty bank, PSU banks, consumer durables, healthcare index and media stocks traded in green. The number of stocks that hit a 52-week high were at 303 and those that hit a 52-week low were at 6.

Houthi rebels' attack severely damages a Belize-flagged ship in key strait leading to the Red Sea
The ship targeted in the Houthi attack on Sunday reported sustaining damage after “an explosion in close proximity to the vessel,” the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported. Ship-tracking data from MarineTraffic.com analyzed by The Associated Press identified the vessel targeted as the Rubymar. Late Monday, the UKMTO and Ambrey reported a suspected Houthi drone attack targeting a ship off Djibouti in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. In November, the Pentagon acknowledged the loss of an MQ-9, shot down by the rebels over the Red Sea. Since Yemen's Houthi rebels seized the country's north and its capital of Sanaa in 2014, the U.S. military has lost four drones to shootdowns by the rebels — in 2017, 2019 and this year.
