General News of Friday, 22 December 2023Source: www.ghanaweb.comIn a compelling dialogue with Broadcast Journalist Serwaa Amihere on X space, Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), fervently expressed the party's dedication to providing Ghanaians with a leadership they can trust. Mr Kwetey asserted that the NPP's governance had led the country astray, emphasizing the need for responsible leadership to address Ghana's challenges—an imperative role, according to him, for former President John Mahama. When quizzed about John Mahama's suitability for the 2024 elections, Kwetey stressed the necessity for trustworthy leadership, drawing a sharp contrast with what he perceives as the current administration's arrogance and lack of humility over the past seven years. Expressing confidence in John Mahama over Vice President Bawumia, whom he accused of lacking integrity, Kwetey acknowledged the upcoming 2024 elections as a formidable challenge that cannot be taken lightly. In conclusion, the General Secretary passionately called upon all NDC loyalists and Ghanaians, in general, to unite and collaborate in rescuing Ghana from what he perceives as the unfavourable grip of the NPP.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, who serves as the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, made this declaration during the 2023 end-of-year review meeting. He indicated that the decision could be reversed if the Berekum Traditional Council provided a satisfactory explanation. Nana Obiri Boahen, however, strongly contested the Dormaahene's authority to make such a pronouncement. Boahen, who is a native of the Bono region and a legal practitioner, vowed to challenge the decision in court. Why did he mention only seven chiefs?

Dormaahene, elaborating on the rationale behind this decision, explained that the suspension is directly related to an injunction initiated by the Berekum Traditional Council. This injunction had restrained him from attending the recent funeral of the late Berekumhene, Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II. Dormaahene emphasized that the suspension of Berekum from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs will remain in effect until the Council provides a more satisfactory explanation for the court action. ADVERTISEMENTThis development stems from a decision by the Sunyani High Court, which on Wednesday, November 22, restrained Dormaahene from attending the funeral scheduled for Thursday, November 23, as it could potentially lead to a breach of peace. The court order was a result of an application filed by a member of the Berekum Traditional Council, Osabarima Kyere Yeboah Darteh II.
