Nigeria, others benefited from $2.69bn guarantees - World Bank

The guarantees were issued under the COVID-19 Fast Track Facility. This was contained in one of the newly released FY21financial statements of the bank, precisely the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency’s financial statement. The facility was geared towards supporting private sector investors and lenders in emerging markets and developing economies, and was structured around the following three pillars,” it stated. Nigeria and the other countries benefited under the second pillar with guarantees totaling $1.127bn in FY20 and $1.563bn in FY21.

A statement issued by Mr David Kumi Addo, the Executive Director, "CARE" Ghana, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the mix model demands for the segmentation of electoral management functions and powers between two independent Elections Management Bodies (EMBs). It said that would divulge some electoral management functions from the EC to allow the commission concentrate on its core statutory functions to lessen the burden. "Adopting the Mix Electoral Management Model will establish visible professionalism, eradicate public suspicion, fraudulent activities and the lack of trust. It said therefore, amendment to article 43(1) and political parties Act 2000, Act 574 to divide electoral functions and powers between two independent election management bodies is a panacea to Ghana’s electoral challenges.

ECOWAS to provide relief for flood victims in north
Regional News of Saturday, 21 August 2021Source: gna.org.ghThe Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is to provide relief items to a number of victims of floods recorded in the year 2020 in the five regions in the north to alleviate their plight. The relief items will include; the construction of 20 shelter and settlement, donation of food and non-food items including; cereals to 4,000 people, construction of some boreholes and handwashing supplies to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases in the targeted communities. The move was in partial fulfillment of the mandate of ECOWAS as a regional organisation to respond to humanitarian disasters wherever they happened within the West Africa sub-region. Many victims are still displaced and living on the benevolence of families and friends. Though some of the needs were met, a lot more was yet to be served due to limited resources, hence the ECOWAS’ Post Flood Humanitarian Intervention Project to assist to provide relief for the rest of the 2020 flood victims in the five regions.

Student nurses’ allowances in four months arrears

The students said January, February, and March allowances were paid, while April, May, June, and July were in arrears. We made follow-ups to the Ministry and what they tell us is that they are working on it.”He recalled that in the year 2020, about eight months allowances were not paid, and said they were told that it would be carried forward, “Even some of our colleagues completed school without their allowances. It should not be so.”When Mr. Yakubu earlier visited the Zuarungu Nursing Training College (ZNTC) students expressed the same concerns with the allowances and also appealed for computers and a well-equipped library to support their studies.

Agenda 111: Ablekuma Central District Hospital to be built at Agbogbloshie

Work will commence on the regional and other hospitals in the latter part of the year,” he assured. “In addition, each hospital will have the full complement of male, female, paediatric and isolation wards.

Committee set up to investigate death of Covid-19 patient who escaped from admission

The Regional Director of GHS, Dr Yaw Ofori Yeboah, in a letter of appointment onto the investigative committee, wants the clinical status of the patient verified at the time of admission. He also wants determined the circumstances that led to the patient’s escape from admission. The committee is expected to present its report by Friday, August 27.

Ghanaians want action, not your rhetoric in fighting corruption – Domelevo fights back
Earlier this week, President Akufo-Addo, while speaking at a meeting with the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, stressed how better of a job the acting Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has done in his short term, better than Domelevo did. Akufo-Addo described the work of Johnson Asiedu as one that is ‘unheard of.’“The Acting Auditor-General has demonstrated sufficient quality and independence of view. “Even the most touted Auditor-General before him never managed to do it and this one has done it,” Akufo-Addo had said. But, making his first comment on the subject since the president made it, Daniel Yao Domelevo explained that the government has rather been paying lip service to the fight against corruption. Also, while lauding the digitization drive by the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Auditor-General explained that “if we don’t curb the indiscipline, the digitalization will not bring the desired solution.”

Kasoa Coca Cola residents shocked murder suspects also killed a pregnant woman
The two teenage boys confessed in court they had earlier killed a pregnant woman. This came to bear when one of the suspects confessed that the murder of 11-year-old Ishmael Abdullah on April 2, 2021, wasn't the only crime they had committed for ritual purposes. Some residents who spoke to GhanaWeb said they never anticipated that these boys could have carried out such an act. So I was taken aback when I heard they had killed his son," one of the residents said. The two teenagers will be arraigned at the High Court on September 20, 2021.

No teacher has impregnated 3 students - GES denies report
Early this week, it was reported that a lecturer with the University of Cape Coast Counselling Centre, Dr Kyeremeh Tawiah Dabone, had said that a teacher in the KEEA, had impregnated three girls in the same class. But the GES has denied the speculations, insisting that the story is without basis, graphic.com.gh has reported. In any case, she said there are GES sanctions for any such culprits who breach the code of conduct of the Service. "The lecturer himself has denied ever saying that the incident happened or that it happened in the KEEA municipality. Robbery attacks on two filling stations at Oborpah leave one dead

Three robbers attacked the Pacific Oil and Safety Petroleum filling stations with the latter located about 150 meters from a 24-hour Police Check Point. The robbers reportedly made away with a total of GHC 21,000 from the two filling stations located about 300 meters apart at Oborpah on the Odumase-Asesewa highway in the early hours of Thursday. For the robbers to be able to rob two filling stations in the community in one night, it’s very difficult. Similar to the latest incident, the three men reportedly fled into the bush after the act.
