By Dawit EndeshawADDIS ABABA (Reuters) -The government of Ethiopia's Amhara region asked federal authorities on Thursday to "take appropriate measures" in response to intense clashes between local militiamen and the military. The request follows several days of fighting in towns across Amhara, the country's second-biggest region, between federal forces and the Fano militia. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Amhara regional president Yilkal Kefale said the unrest was causing significant human, social and economic damage. On Thursday, mobile internet access was down in parts of Amhara region, according to residents. Spokespeople for the federal government and the Amhara regional administration did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Mobile internet access was down in parts of Ethiopia's Amhara region on Thursday, five residents said, following days of clashes between the federal military and local militiamen. Two residents of Amhara's capital, Bahir Dar, and three in Gondar, its second-biggest city, said mobile internet services were unavailable on Thursday. Authorities in Ethiopia have repeatedly cut internet services over the past few years during bouts of conflict and civil unrest. Its relationship with federal authorities has soured in recent months over what some in Amhara say is a disregard by for the region's security. Protesters felt the order was meant to weaken Amhara, Ethiopia's second-largest region.

Both forces had fought alongside federal ones in the Tigray conflict, but now the federal government wants to centralize its security powers. Many Amhara, however, are deeply attached to their regional fighters and accuse the federal government of trying to undermine their region, which federal officials reject. The internet has been shut down in several parts of the Amhara region, the Ethiopia-based Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy said Thursday. Elsewhere in the Amhara region, residents said protesters blocked roads and Fano militia ambushed military units, while government officials fled several towns. The fighting is the latest blow to Ethiopia’s recovery from the Tigray conflict, which also spilled into the Amhara region and caused billions of dollars of damage to infrastructure.

These Chinese doctors have shared numerous heartfelt stories about the lives they've been entrusted with and the health they've cared for on land 17,000 kilometers away from home. Despite the scarcity of equipment and medicines, the Chinese doctors turned their settlement place into a makeshift outpatient hospital for local patients. At that time, a locally-employed young Chinese man came to the Chinese doctors with severe dizziness. For instance, Chinese doctors performed incisions of the abscess on a sofa and nasal hemostasis using a motor vehicle as a platform. "I appreciate Chinese doctors' endeavor to share the knowledge and experience of TCM with our doctors and help them master related techniques," said Tessema.
