Atnafu outlined his government's efforts to make the African country a better place for foreign investors through significant reforms in foreign direct investment policy and business environment. A new 10-MW solar power plant was inaugurated in Semnan by Iranian government officials, Mehr News Agency reported on August 10. The Shahid Hamid Bakri solar plant – opened in the presence of Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Abbas Aliabadi – has an annual electricity generation capacity of up to 10 MW. Aliabadi stated that the delivery of the new power plant provides jobs for up to ten people from the local area, including maintenance and cleaning. According to officials, more than IRR1.4 trillion ($28mn) has been invested in building the plant. The term “solar park or town” is defined in Iran as a new area situated outside a city which is then populated with solar panels.

Hundreds of Israelis of Ethiopian descent are protesting on Sunday in Jerusalem, demanding their relatives in Ethiopia are allowed to make Aliyah to Israel. Among other things, the protesters are calling to end discrimination against them, and are holding pictures of their relatives left in Ethiopia. Protest organizers say that "A rescue plane took off from Ethiopia headed for Israel on Thursday, leaving over a Thousand people eligible for Aliyah behind. Gondar has a large community of people eligible to make Aliyah to Israel, and the protesters are demanding they be brought to Israel. Last week, some 200 Israelis and those eligible to make Aliyah were extracted from Gondar by Israel, and moved to Addis Ababa.

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi government ends a week-long suspension of the Telegram messaging app over “national security” concerns after the move drew criticism from pro-Iran factions. As of this morning, the app is again accessible without the need for a virtual private network (VPN), AFP journalists in Baghdad say. A coalition of Iran-linked Shiite Muslim parties dominates Iraq’s parliament, and backs Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. The request for information documents further underscore how USAID, an agency that handles foreign aid and disclosed a $49.59 billion budget in 2023, has prioritized DEI initiatives. In the RFI documents, USAID described how it is "reviewing its activities" to see how the Ethiopia office can adjust its diversity practices. The agency is also asking parties to describe any "structural barriers" to reaching these groups. The RFI was signed by Adrienne Shade, a USAID Ethiopia contracting and agreement officer.

Law enforcement authorities in Ethiopia are targeting venues frequented by LGBTQ+ people in the nation, particularly in the capital city, Addis Ababa, in an effort to root out so-called homosexual activity, while LGBTQ+ Ethiopians are being subjected to violence by private citizens.
