Two Ethiopian Sites Nominated for Unesco’s World Heritage List – Ethiopian Monitor

Ligonier Has More Than History

UAE denies media reports it supplied arms to warring factions in Sudan
The UAE has denied allegations made in the media that it supplied arms and ammunition to warring parties in the Sudan conflict. Afra Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “expressed the UAE's categorical refutation of the claims and allegations in the story” in a statement issued through state news agency Wam. “The UAE has not supplied arms and ammunition to any of the warring parties in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023,” the ministry said, in remarks attributed to Ms Al Hameli. “Furthermore, Al Hameli underscored that the UAE continues to monitor the humanitarian situation affecting the Sudanese people and its impact on neighbouring countries,” the statement continued. Ms Al Hameli noted that the UAE inaugurated a co-ordination office for UAE foreign aid in the Amdjarass.

Israel evacuates Jews from Ethiopia conflict region
Israel has announced it's evacuated in a special flight over 200 of its citizens and Ethiopian Jews from two cities in the Amhara region affected by recent violence and moved them to the country’s capital Addis Ababa. In a statement Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he’d directed the evacuees to be moved out of combat areas and that they would leave for Israel. Relative calm continues to be reported in the biggest cities in the Amhara region amid recent intense clashes between the army and local militias. Meanwhile the US and the UK have joined hands with three other countries - Japan, Australia and New Zealand - to express concerns over deteriorating security in Ethiopia. A joint statement released on Friday says recent violence in the country’s Amhara and Oromia regions “have resulted in civilian deaths and instability".

Ethiopian Israelis rally in Jerusalem, seeking increased immigration quota
The gathering was the latest in a longstanding effort to bring to Israel descendants of Ethiopian Jews who had converted to Christianity in the 19th century, and some of their relatives.
