NEW YORK (Reuters) – Before COVID-19, Thru Shivakumar, co-founder and CEO of Cohesion, was already working on apps to convert office buildings into smart spaces, powered by technology that enables interaction with tenants through phones and computers. Since the pandemic began, however, she is learning that the smart buildings of the future are going to look different from the ones she was planning prior to 2020. A smart building app is no longer nice to have. What do employees want when they return to the office? There was so much going on, and I could get distracted, but I had to have this sustained focus.

In the 1950s and 1960s, being a millionaire implied a level of wealth and exclusivity that few could hope to achieve. Becoming a millionaireAchieving millionaire status is a worthy financial goal for the 97% of Americans who aren’t there yet. The most important lesson from "The Millionaire Next Door" is that if you want to become a millionaire, you’ll need to live frugally. Hold onto your investments for a couple of years after that and you’ll likely achieve millionaire status — after about 24 years. Brenda P. Wenning is president of Wenning Investments LLC, of Newton.

New home prices in 100 cities rose 0.35% in July from a month earlier, versus 0.36% growth in June, according to data from China Index Academy, one of the country’s largest independent real estate research firms. “New home growth softened in July against the backdrop of stringent measures and tighter credit”, said the group’s director, Cao Jingjing. Growth in home sales is expected to remain mild as the curbs are unlikely to be eased, the survey said. Price growth in China’s biggest cities such as Shanghai and Beijing, however, continued to accelerate, up 0.54% versus June’s 0.48% growth, suggesting persistent demand for properties in the country’s economically most vibrant cities. Resale homes also showed slower month-on-month price growth in July, while existing home prices in Shenzhen were down 0.43% on-month.

TOKYO (Reuters) -Tokyo Games organisers said they are investigating after a group of athletes were found drinking alcohol in the Olympic village this week, violating measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The athletes were caught drinking in a park in the athletes’ village on Friday night, Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto told a news conference, adding police were later present at the incident. Muto did not give details of the number of athletes involved or their nationalities. Organisers previously said athletes are permitted to drink alcohol only in their rooms and only if they are alone, as a precaution against COVID-19. Drinking and partying are normally features of life in the Olympic village, as athletes let off steam after years of gruelling training once their competitions end.

FRAMINGHAM — After two years of searching, OUT MetroWest has finally found its new home — and at a familiar venue. In September, the Framingham-based LGBTQ+ nonprofit is moving into the ātac: downtown arts + music building at 160 Hollis St. in Framingham. "We are really excited to put these roots down in Framingham and really be invested in the partnership with ātac and the larger Framingham and MetroWest area," she said. Formerly known as the Amazing Things Art Center, ātac was founded in 2005 and moved to its current home on Hollis Street in 2008. While OUT MetroWest moving in will cut much of atac's gallery space, Codianni said it's also helped change the space and how to use it.

During the offseason, head coach Bill Belichick stated that Newton was his starting quarterback, but he has also mentioned that camp brings a “clean slate” for all players competing, including quarterbacks. On Saturday morning, Belichick once again reiterated that Newton is the team’s starting quarterback while also making it seem as if that decision isn’t set in stone. When he was asked about the starting quarterback spot, Belichick said he’s looking for consistency and production. When he was asked if he has a time frame for when he wants to choose his starting quarterback, however, Belichick once again pointed to Newton. I mean, Cam’s our starting quarterback.
