Newsletter SignupThe Cornell Eatery app, developed by Cornell AppDev, is just like your favorite foods in your pantry: reliable with a wide-array of choices. Coming to Cornell in 2021, Eatery was described in online threads as an essential app to navigate food on campus. Eatery is my everyday go-to for deciding where to eat; as a matter of fact, I originally thought Eatery was created by Cornell Dining. Cornell Dining Now is still running to date. I look forward to seeing how Eatery continues to be app-etizing to students’ taste buds and busy life schedules.

This year, Foodlink advanced their mission by creating a series of events collectively known as Building Community through Food. First, Flagstaff Foodlink organized a fruit tree gleaning day (part of the larger Flagstaff Fruit Tree Project), wherein residents with fruit trees were connected with volunteer pickers who harvested the fruit that would otherwise go to waste. After the gleaning event, Flagstaff Foodlink partnered with Willow Bend Environmental Education Center to host a community workshop at Willow Bend that would teach interested residents multiple ways they could process and store apples for long-term use. Although the Building Community through Food Series has wrapped up for the year, Flagstaff Foodlink’s work strengthening and supporting our local food system and the community that sustains it will continue. Details about future events, workshops and other opportunities can be found at flagstaffoodlink.com or at the Flagstaff Foodlink Facebook page.

Episode 112: If you’re not already familiar with the term surge pricing, it’s likely you’ll hear a lot more about it soon. Simply put, it’s when businesses identify times when there is a high demand for their products or services — whether an Uber ride or a pint of beer — and raise prices. Anyone who has taken am introductory economics course learns that when supply of something is scarce and demand is high, prices will go up. What’s new is that technology lets those changes happen quickly and with little warning to those affected. Richard Kyte and Scott Rada discuss whether there are any ethical pitfalls around this new way of doing business.

Bringing construction materials from Teknaf to St Martin’s Island is illegal and the permission of the upazila administration is even needed for government construction projects. Faizul Kabir, an inspector of the Department of Environment in St Martin’s Island, said: “Until last year, the number of illegally constructed buildings was 192. The St Martin’s coral island stretches 8.3 square kilometres in the Bay of Bengal near the southeastern border with Myanmar.
