Bangladesh progresses a little in global hunger index
Bangladesh has made a little progress in terms of score in the Global Hunger Index with continuous development in cutting child undernourishment. In the 2023 index, however, Bangladesh ranks 81st out of the 125 countries with sufficient data for calculation, down from 76th among 116 countries in 2022, reports bdnews24.com. With a score of 19.0 in the 2023 Global Hunger Index, Bangladesh has a level of hunger that is moderate. The Global Hunger Index, a tool for comprehensively measuring and tracking hunger at global, regional, and national levels, is a peer-reviewed annual report, jointly published by Concern Worldwide and WelthungerhilfeGHI scores are based on the values of four component indicators. These reductions in hunger are particularly impressive given the challenges facing the world and the stagnation in hunger levels at the global level in recent years, the report said.

One killed, two hurt in Jatrabari road accident
DHAKA, Oct 14, 2023 (BSS)- An unidentified auto-rickshaw puller was killed and two passengers were injured as the auto rickshaw overturned and a speeding truck ran over it in city's Jatrabari Matuail areain the early hours of today. Jatrabari Thana Officer-in-charge Mofizul Alam confirmed the matter to BSS saying that, on information, a team of Jatrabari Thana Police rescued them and took them to Dhaka Medical College hospital (DMCH). "The driver was killed on spot, while the passengers suffered severe injuries. Police is currently looking for the truck and its driver," he added. Jatrabari Thana SI M. Jahiduzzaman said that, "The body of the victim has been kept on the DMCH morgue.

Durga Puja countdown begins with Mahalaya celebration

Bangladesh records 1,673 dengue cases, 13 deaths in a day
Dhaka registered 478 new dengue patients while the number was 1,195 outside the capital. Dhaka, however, saw eight new deaths from the disease against five in the rest of the country. Of the 8,248 dengue patients in hospitals across the country in the morning, 2,538 were in Dhaka. The figure was 5,710 in other districts. Experts have blamed a prolonged monsoon and rising temperature, along with a lack of effective measures to kill the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the known carrier of the virus, for the outbreak.

After vandalism, Boy Scouts repair historic cabin near Frances Short Pond; water to return by winter, city says
Frances Short Pond was a bustle of activity last weekend as Boy Scouts and other volunteers worked to repair the historic cabin that sits on the banks. The work came after the cabin and several educational plaques around the pond were vandalized within the last year. Davis said the Flagstaff Elks Club donated $1,000 for supplies to fix up the cabin, while the Boy Scouts were providing much of the needed manpower. The hope is to bring the cabin back to a state at which it can again be used for school trips and educational activities. Moran Henn, executive director of Willow Bend, said the group has long used the cabin and pond area as a second classroom.
