Netherlands win toss, bowl against Pakistan
HYDERABAD, India, Oct 6, 2023 (BSS/AFP) - Netherlands sent Pakistan in to bat in their World Cup clash in Hyderabad on Friday after skipper Scott Edwards won the toss. Pakistan picked two frontline spinners in Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz alongside fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali. None raised caretaker govt issue during US, UK visits: PM
DHAKA, Oct 6, 2023 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said no one raised the issue of caretaker government (CG) during her recent visits to the US and the UK. Sheikh Hasina, also the President of ruling Awami League, said: "This system (CG) has been destroyed by BNP." Regarding the movement of BNP, the Prime Minister said, "We're not stopping their movement. As much as they stage movement, some money will go to the common people; I consider it in this way." On Wednesday, the Premier returned home from London after wrapping up her 16-day official visit to the US and the UK.

PM opens media briefing on UNGA session
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is briefing the media on the outcome of her recent visit to New York for the 78th United Nations General Assembly. The briefing began at her official residence at 4:00 pm on Friday, reports bdnews24.com. Hasina returned to Dhaka on Wednesday after her trip to the United States and the United Kingdom. She left the country to attend the UNGA and other events in New York on September 17.

Sri Lanka was also yet to finalise a restructuring plan with its private andbilateral lenders after defaulting on its $46 billion external debt in Aprillast year. CBSL said it hoped the latest rate cut, which comes on top of two in June andJuly, would help revive the economy. Last year, Sri Lanka ran out of cash to pay for even the most essentialimports, leading to shortages of food, fuel and medicines.

Lincoln motorcyclist dies after Wednesday morning crash, police say
A 28-year-old Lincoln man died after he crashed into an SUV that had pulled into his path on North First Street early Wednesday morning, according to police. Limon crossed into David's path as she navigated the turn, colliding with the motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, Lincoln Police Investigator Chad Staley said in the report. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the crash, police said. A witness told police he couldn't tell how fast David had been riding in the moments before the crash, according to the report. Limon had been stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Nance Avenue and North First Street before crossing into David's path, according to the report.

The Nobel literature prize goes to Norway's Jon Fosse, who once wrote a novel in a single sentence
Fosse’s work, rooted in his Norwegian background, “focuses on human insecurity and anxiety," Anders Olsson, chair of the Nobel literature committee, told The Associated Press. "It was a great joy for me to get the phone call.”WHY DID THE NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE GO TO JON FOSSE? Fosse has cited the bleak, enigmatic work of Irish writer Samuel Beckett — the 1969 Nobel literature laureate — as an influence on his sparse, minimalist style. While Fosse is the fourth Norwegian writer to get the literature prize, he is the first in nearly a century and the first who writes in Nynorsk, one of the two official written versions of the Norwegian language. “I stand here and feel a little numb, but of course very happy for the great honor,” Fosse told Norway's TV2.
