25,000 farmers to adopt climate-smart agro-method in Barind
RAJSHAHI, Oct 20, 2023 (BSS)- More than 25,000 grassroots farmers will begiven ideas and knowledge related to adopt climate-smart agriculture methodsfor making their farming outputs profitable in the region, including itsBarind area. They will also attain practical knowledge about boosting irrigationefficiency and farm productivity besides availing and expanding local agro-business opportunities through connecting a strong public-private stakeholdernetwork. DASCOH Foundation will implement the project, technically supported by theSyngenta Foundation while financially supported by the Hongkong and ShanghaiBanking Corporation Limited. Country Director of Syngenta Foundation Farhad Zamil and Jahangir Alam Khanfrom DASCOH Foundation also joined the project inception meeting. There are provisions of empowering women and youth in agriculture throughcreating job opportunities and agro-entrepreneurship programmes.

UK's ruling Conservatives suffer two damaging by-election losses
LONDON, Oct 20, 2023 (BSS/AFP) - Britain's ruling Conservative Party sufferedtwo damaging by-election defeats to Labour on Friday, boding ill for PrimeMinister Rishi Sunak and his party's chances at the next general election. The elections were in traditionally safe Tory seats, but Labour managed tooverturn huge majorities in both on a notable evening for the oppositionparty. Then-prime minister Boris Johnson's handling of the case led to a raft ofministerial resignations that spelt the beginning of the end of hispremiership. - Policy shifts -As well as the two safe seats lost on Friday, the Tories saw a 20,000majority overturned in a July by-election on a 21 percent swing. Labour, meanwhile, said that neither seat had been on "our target list forthe general election".

JCC's comeback falls just short in playoff loss
Clarkson/Leigh scored their next touchdown on a 74-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0. Highlights of the drive included a 29 yard pass by Swanson and a 17 yard run by Ofoegbu. Swanson then found Wyatt Ludemann for a 24 yard touchdown pass, but the two pointer failed, keeping Clarkson/Leigh ahead 30-20. A 35 yard touchdown run by the Patriots extended the lead back to 38-20. Ofoegbu capped the drive with a two yard touchdown run, but the two pointer failed, keeping the score at 38-26.

And the Bangladesh Bank appears to be disregarding expert opinions aimed at resolving the crisis. It means the remittances are reaching the relatives of the expatriates, but not replenishing the forex reserves of the Bangladesh Bank. Experts say Bangladesh plunged into this crisis because of the central bank’s attempts to artificially maintain the value of the taka against the dollar. One of the conditions set by the IMF under a $4.7 billion loan programme is to keep uniform dollar rates based on the market, but the exchange rate never translated into market value. All of them said the Bangladesh Bank was not following basic rules to end the crisis, leading the dollar reserves to fall.

But despite a good start, Bangladesh failed to cash in on it as India bowlers came back strongly to stifle the Tigers in the middle over. Mahmudullah Riyad hit 34 ball-46 with three fours and as many sixes toward the end to help Bangladesh finish on high. The introduction of the spinners brought success for India as Kuldeep Yadav drew the blood first, trapping Tanzid leg-before. Bangladesh needed early wickets to put pressure on India, which they failed to do, largely thanks to Rohit Sharma and Shuvman Gill.
