The number of dengue patients hospitalised in Bangladesh so far has increased to 252,990, with 1,889 new cases reported in the latest daily count. The death toll stood at 1,246 as 20 more patients died from the mosquito-borne disease in the 24 hours to Saturday morning amid the worst outbreak on record, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Dhaka saw 412 new cases and 10 deaths in this period. The hospitals across Bangladesh were treating 8,144 patients for dengue fever in the morning, and 2,341 of them were in the capital. After a record 79,598 dengue cases and 396 deaths from the disease in September, as many as 49,584 cases and 257 deaths have been recorded so far in October.

King later lost his job and relied on the commercial sex work done by the victim for money. NEW DELHI, Oct 21, 2023 (BSS/AFP) - India on Saturday successfully launched the first unmanned trial run of its upcoming crewed orbital mission, in the latest milestone for its spacefaring ambitions. Gaganyaan is the first mission of its kind for India and comes with an estimated price tag of $1.08 billion, according to ISRO. India plans to send astronauts beyond the reaches of Earth's atmosphere for three days before they are brought safely back with a soft landing in Indian territorial waters. The following month, India launched a probe to observe the outermost layers of the Sun from solar orbit. India also plans a joint mission with Japan to send another probe to the Moon by 2025 and an orbital mission to Venus within the next two years.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer confirmed Friday night that he has agreed to a contract extension with the famed basketball program. ESPN reported earlier Friday that Scheyer was receiving an extension through the 2028-29 season. NEW YORK, Oct 21, 2023 (BSS/TASS) - More than twenty journalists became victims of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Committee to Protect Journalists reported. "As of October 20, at least 22 journalists were among the more than 4,000 dead on both sides," the Committee informed. "Journalists in Gaza face particularly high risks as they try to cover the conflict in the face of a ground assault by Israeli troops, devastating Israeli airstrikes, disrupted communications, and extensive power outages," the organization noted. Twenty two journalists were confirmed dead: 18 Palestinian, 3 Israeli, and 1 Lebanese, the Committee said. Eight journalists were reported injured and three journalists were reported missing or detained.

Quader emphasised the need for vigilance throughout the festival to thwart any untoward incidents at a meeting with representatives of the Puja Udjapan Parishad on Friday. Recently, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad organised a demonstration in Cumilla to protest against the controversial comments of AKM Bahauddin Bahar, a local MP, who called for 'alcohol-free festivities'. Oikya Parishad leaders also accused the police of obstructing their activities. This is especially true during Hindu festivals when incidents of violence may arise."

Two men have been killed in an attack stemming from a dispute over land in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred in Bagbati's Ichhamati village on Thursday, said Sirajul Islam, chief of Sadar Police Station. The dead men were identified as Al Amin Sheikh, 32 and Amin Khan, 35. Two groups have been embroiled in a prolonged conflict over land in the village, Sirajul said, citing locals. Amin died on the spot, while Al Amin passed away in a Dhaka hospital on Friday.
