Khaleda Zia’s namaz-e-janaza to be held at 2pm on Wednesday
The interim government has taken extensive preparations across the capital to ensure that the funeral prayers and burial of three-time former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia are carried out with full state honours. Her namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) will be held on Wednesday, at 2pm after Zohr prayers at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House and the adjacent Manik Mia Avenue. To ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the janaza and burial, several high-level coordination meetings were held on Tuesday at the chief adviser’s residence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Parliament complex. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the namaz-e-janaza will be led by Mufti Abdul Malek, Khatib of the national mosque Baitul Mukarram. Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

Yemen declares state of emergency after separatists seize territory
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - The leader of Yemen's presidential council declared a state of emergency and cancelled a security pact with the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday after Abu Dhabi-backed separatists seized swathes of territory. Khaleda to be buried with state honours, bags banned at funeral prayers
Dhaka, Dec. 30 -- Authorities have announced security restrictions for the funeral prayers and burial of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, including a ban on bags at the funeral prayer venue and limited access to the burial ceremony. In a notice on Tuesday, the Chief Advisor's Office said mourners attending the funeral prayers would not be allowed to carry bags or heavy belongings. The funeral prayers are scheduled to take place at 2 pm on Wednesday at the Parliament's South Plaza and the adjoining Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka. Ripon brilliance powers Rajshahi to 2nd win in BPL

Jaishankar will represent the Government and people of India at the funeral of Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party,” the Indian high commission in Dhaka said in a statement this evening. Begum Zia’s Janaza would be held after Zohr prayers while the high commission statement said Jaishankar would accordingly visit Dhaka on December 31. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the morning expressed deep sorrow at Begum Zia’s demise, recalling her contributions to Bangladesh and bilateral relations.

Govt to procure 70,000 MTs fertilizer, 50,000 MTs non-Basmati rice
Photo : CollectedDHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) – The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase today recommended approval of several key procurement proposals involving purchase of 70,000 metric tons of fertiliser, 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati para-boiled rice, 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid and major infrastructure development under the Ministry of Shipping. Among the approved proposals, the Ministry of Food will procure 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati parboiled rice through international open tender method at a cost of Taka 220.05 crore to strengthen national food reserves in the fiscal year 2025–26. To ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply for agriculture, the committee also endorsed multiple proposals from the Ministry of Industries. The 1st revised project aims to enhance inland container handling, bulk cargo storage and logistics efficiency, at a cost of approximately Taka 184.91 crore. Officials said the approved procurements will play a crucial role in ensuring food security, fertiliser availability for farmers and improved inland water transport facilities across the country.

As two other Colorado youth homeless shelters close, Urban Peak waitlist grows
This section of Urban Peak’s dorm-style youth shelter on Acoma Street in Denver is for minors, ages 12 to 18. There is now just one other homeless shelter in the state with designated space for youth, a 28-bed shelter called The Landing in Loveland. Homeless outreach workers in Colorado Springs, Boulder and elsewhere are calling Urban Peak to see if they have space for more teenagers. Urban Peak CEO Christina Carlson spins the pieces of an interactive art display made with blocks designed by residents of the youth homeless shelter. She credits Urban Peak — all three of the locations where she has lived — for helping her get through the past three years.
