The interim government has taken extensive preparations across the capital to ensure that the funeral prayers and burial of three-time former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia are carried out with full state honours. Her namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) will be held on Wednesday, at 2pm after Zohr prayers at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House and the adjacent Manik Mia Avenue. To ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the janaza and burial, several high-level coordination meetings were held on Tuesday at the chief adviser’s residence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Parliament complex. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the namaz-e-janaza will be led by Mufti Abdul Malek, Khatib of the national mosque Baitul Mukarram. Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

Dhaka, Dec. 30 -- Authorities have announced security restrictions for the funeral prayers and burial of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, including a ban on bags at the funeral prayer venue and limited access to the burial ceremony. Photo : CollectedDHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) – The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase today recommended approval of several key procurement proposals involving purchase of 70,000 metric tons of fertiliser, 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati para-boiled rice, 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid and major infrastructure development under the Ministry of Shipping. Among the approved proposals, the Ministry of Food will procure 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati parboiled rice through international open tender method at a cost of Taka 220.05 crore to strengthen national food reserves in the fiscal year 2025–26. To ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply for agriculture, the committee also endorsed multiple proposals from the Ministry of Industries. The 1st revised project aims to enhance inland container handling, bulk cargo storage and logistics efficiency, at a cost of approximately Taka 184.91 crore. Officials said the approved procurements will play a crucial role in ensuring food security, fertiliser availability for farmers and improved inland water transport facilities across the country.

There is now just one other homeless shelter in the state with designated space for youth, a 28-bed shelter called The Landing in Loveland. The longtime chief of Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) and a three-time prime minister died earlier in the day in Dhaka after a prolonged illness. Earlier in a televised address to the nation, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced a three-day state mourning and a one-day general holiday. "At the death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, I declare three days of state mourning and a one-day general holiday tomorrow on the day of her Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers)," he said.
