ARCADIAN COLUMN: Taking the backroads to visit a place called yesterday
In my youth, way back in the previous millennium, our version of a vacation was driving for miles and miles to the home of relatives and staying a few days. That meant one bathroom for anywhere from eight to 15 people, sleeping on pallets, and endless cousin time. It took a lot longer to get someplace, having to pass through countless little towns and even more stoplights. That meant everybody’s hair was flying all over the place, and no wonder my daddy kept his cut short and I wore a hat all the time. We listened to the AM radio to what my daddy called “hillbilly music,” which was basically country tunes from the 1950s and 60s.

Towfika is said to have assumed the role of chair at Citizens Bank after Anisul’s mother Jahanara Huq, passed away. The CID report alleges that Towfika, using Anisul’s illicit funds, acquired properties as "second homes" in Canada, Dubai, and Malaysia. CID sources suggest Towfika may have fled to Canada on Jul 26, just before the Awami League administration’s Aug 5 ouster. Citing money laundering violations under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, CID’s Financial Crime Unit has officially launched a probe into her and associated parties.

Commodity prices fall after Donald Trump elected US President

Commodity prices started to fall overnight as traders started to price in the likelihood of a Trump win. Benchmark European gas prices also fell by nearly 3% amid concerns about gas supplies and Trump's stance on the Middle East conflict and Russia-Ukraine war. Shares in European clean energy companies also fell as Trump has vowed to scrap offshore wind projects through an executive order on his first day in office.

WASHINGTON, Nov 6, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Donald Trump won the first of the swing states Tuesday as he pulled ahead of White House rival Kamala Harris, narrowing her path to victory in an agonizingly tight and suspenseful US presidential election. Democratic vice president Harris appeared to be underperforming in other key areas compared to the Republican former president. Harris's camp said the race was now "razor-thin" and that her "clearest path" to victory was through the so-called Blue Wall swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Trump's early wins included the predictably Republican Florida and Texas while Harris won California, giving Trump 227 electoral votes and Harris 172.
