The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, or BSEC, has scrapped the minimum fixed price or floor prices on shares in stock markets after one and a half years. All stocks, except those of 35 companies, will no longer have a minimum price from Sunday. Of these, 357 no longer have a floor price. No special instructions have been given regarding the circuit breaker share prices for these companies, so the maximum limit will remain 10 percent. However, no clear explanation was given for why minimum prices were maintained for 35 companies.

Weather-related disruption at ports in northern Europe and the diversion of vessels away from the Red Sea are causing congestion at container terminals, AP Moller-Maersk said in an update to customers on Thursday. Maersk and other shipping groups have diverted vessels away from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden following attacks by Yemen's Houthis, sending them on a long journey around Africa rather than through the Suez Canal shortcut. In northern Europe, winter storms and the effects of the recent holiday season have led to terminal closures and navigation stoppages, the company said.

Wholesale traders have blamed large mill owners and corporate companies for the sudden rise in rice prices, and have asked the government to open up import opportunities. The government gave facilities to large companies in the hope of getting lower rice prices but this has not panned out, said State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu after hearing comments from traders. After hearing the traders’ concerns, the state minister for commerce said, “We protected the mills and factories because we wanted them to proliferate. But now they are starting to take advantage of us.”“We gave them incentives so they could supply us with rice at affordable prices. Otherwise they won’t.”If there is any attempt to wrest control of the market, the government will take action, Titu said.
