Used in batteries, lithium is found in almost every electronic device today and Argentina is at the epicenter of its production. Still, that figure seems paltry when compared to Australia and Chile, which produce around 13,000 tons each. According to Reuters, around 70 percent of the world’s reserves lie in the so-called “lithium triangle,” an area which covers North-Western Argentina, Northern Chile and Southern Bolivia. Still, Chile is already producing a lot more than Argentina, so why the late start? What is certain is that we’ll be seeing this metal make headlines more and more in the coming years.

Buenos Aires Province Governor María Eugenia Vidal received two death threats in 24 hours — the first on Sunday and the second on Monday night — via phone. These developments comes in a context of heightened government security surrounding public officials as several important politicians have received death threats in the last month. According to the provincial Ministry of Security, both phone calls were made to 911 and left as messages for Vidal. However, neither Vidal nor her ex husband Ramiro Tagliaferro (mayor of Morón, also in Buenos Aires province) have not lived in that house for weeks: she moved to the Palomar Air Base with her three children for security reasons. María Eugenia Vidal is the first woman and non-Peronist to hold the governor’s office of Buenos Aires Province since 1987.

The Macri administration today announced it will postpone the public hearings regarding gas increases for four days to make sure people interested in attending the sessions get to sign up. Read more: Macri Administration To Hold Public Hearing About Gas Increases in September“It’s advisable, in order to assure the intervention of all potentially interested persons, to set a new date for the hearing, thus extending the period to sign up,” the resolution reads. The process to sign up has not changed: Any person or company, public or private, who claims a right has been transgressed or is simply interested will be eligible to attend. Following last week’s Supreme Court ruling suspending gas bill increases for homes, the Macri administration called for a public hearing to, once again, present its proposal to raise gas prices. Hearings are intended to inform the public and are not legally binding, however.

As a result, May has promised to overhaul corporate governance to try and close a wealth gap that sees bosses being paid more than 140 times what their staff receive. Across the FTSE All-Share index over the same period, 766 votes were completed, with just one failing to gain approval — suggesting fund managers were untroubled by the issue of executive pay. World leader BlackRock has a relatively large team of just over 20 corporate governance and stewardship staff globally, but most rivals have far fewer. “The thing I hear time and time again is ‘we’re stretched,’” said Oliver Parry, head of corporate governance at the Institute of Directors (IoD). May’s plans to disclose the pay ratio between bosses and their employees and bring staff on board mirror actions elsewhere.

But in a meeting with Hispanic activists on Saturday, Trump indicated that he was open to considering allowing those who have not committed crimes, beyond their immigration offences, to obtain some form of legal status — though attendees made clear Trump has yet to make up his mind. Bramnick said he’d left the meeting “very encouraged” and “hopeful in anticipating the policy and language” Trump’s campaign is expected to release in the coming weeks. Any walk-back would mark a dramatic reversal for Trump, whose tough stand on immigration has been the driving issue of his campaign. Trump had been scheduled to deliver a speech on the topic Thursday in Colorado, but it has since been postponed. Hispanic business and religious leaders who would like to see Trump move in a more inclusive direction, have reported closed-door conversations with Trump in which they say he has signalled possibly embracing a less punitive immigration policy that focuses on “compassion” along with the rule of law.

Tuesday, August 23, 2016 New leak of 14,900 emails to trouble ClintonUS Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton speaks at a gathering of law enforcement leaders at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, last Thursday. The State Department could make public the first batch of emails in October, weeks before the Democratic nominee faces Republican rival Donald Trump in the November 8 election. State Department employees are due to craft a timeline for the release at a meeting on September 23. The Federal Bureau of Investigation found Clinton was “extremely careless” with sensitive information by using the private server but recommended against bringing charges against Clinton. Last week, The New York Times reported that Clinton told federal investigators that Powell had suggested she use personal email for unclassified email when the two spoke over dinner.

While speaking at a pharmaceutical plant’s inauguration today, President Mauricio Macri urged workers to cooperate with their employers rather than “throw wrenches in the works,” surprising most media outlets and pundits who expected him to talk about his recent setback in his attempt to raise gas prices. “The process [of economic growth] has already begun. Following last week’s Supreme Court ruling suspending gas bill increases for homes, the Macri administration called for a public hearing on September 12 to, once again, present its proposal to raise gas prices. The government still hopes to implement the rate hikes, which it deems crucial to fixing the country’s “energy crisis” and to improving the economy as a whole. Hearings are intended to inform the public and are not legally binding, however.

In any case, Diego definitely looks good in a dress, and Ivanna can pull off a clean shaven head and a moustache. This scene goes a long way to describe Bife, the queer band Ivanna Colonna Olsen and Diego Fantin formed, but it’s hard to put the real essence of their work into words. Their songs are varied and include tangos, cumbias, jazz, bossanova, punk, pop, reggae and folk. Three weeks after they started playing together back in 2014, they had already recorded their first album, Con Amor, mostly composed of tangos and cumbias. “We feel like cultural production is one of the most important tools at everyone’s disposal to spread their ideals.” Ivanna and Diego clearly use this tool well.

Vice President Gabriella Michetti found herself embroiled in controversy after her domestic employee, Norma Elizabeth Sánchez Rojas, declared that Michetti does not abide by the Labor Laws and severely underpays her. That’s 37 percent less than minimum wage for domestic employees, which is AR $6,322.50. The second most important authority in the country paid her employee half the legal value. Rojas made these statements in the context of the case investigating the theft of roughly AR $250,000 and US $50,000 from Michetti’s house. The money was allegedly stolen on November 22nd of last year: the same day that Macri won the ballotage elections.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to visit Argentina in September on a consultation mission for the first time in 10 years in order to evaluate the country’s economic policies and investigate the country’s economic outlook. IMF representatives will arrive in the country on September 19th and will stay for 13 days. Once they leave the country, the reports will go directly to the head of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, and its contents could be assessed in November. Back in January, Macri and Finance Minister Alfonso Prat-Gay said they would be opening Argentina’s doors to IMF audits once again. The IMF already sent a Technical Mission to Argentina in June this year to evaluate the quality of the official Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data.

Londoners rejoiced over the weekend as the Tube operated around the clock for the first time. Trains running every 10 minutes between 12:30 AM and 5:30 AM meant drunken revelers could afford that extra pint at the bar, knowing they wouldn’t have to shell out cash for a cab. Federal Judge Ariel Lijo and Prosecutor Guillermo Marijuán are now tasked with investigating the claims. Until all that is cleared up, Javier Zabaljauregui, the Deputy General Director of Customs Control, will be taking over. In an interview with Clarín on Sunday, Centurión assured he was “victim of a mob-like operation” involving former intelligence officers. They want to take down an official and a team who are investigating issues that have upset a lot of powerful people. Everyone hated the system and the World Trade Organization (WTO) even criticized it, saying it was too restrictive on imports.
