The government has come out loud and clear on this: the doctor who was detained after killing the man who was trying to rob him is the real victim in the case. But the doctor was the victim and we can’t forget that,” Bullrich said at a press conference today. The surprisingly frank statement is bound to agitate a case that had already caused much debate across the country over what constitutes justifiable homicide. On Friday, Dr. Lino Villar Cataldo killed 24-year-old Ricardo Krabler after he tried to forcefully steal his car in the Buenos Aires province district of Loma Hermosa. Judiciary sources told Diario Popular that in July and August there were at least 15 cases of the perpetrator of a robbery later being killed by the person he robbed in the City of Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires province.

You know when a guy keeps asking “Why not?” or “Do you have a boyfriend?” or “Is he here? What’s the problem, then?” and you have to clarify that it has nothing to do with your relationship status, no means no? Well, add those two things together and you get Fourcade, whose conversations with several women via Twitter and Facebook were published online. Fourcade’s brazenness and sense of impunity is also notable and seemed to particularly hit a chord with women across Argentina. The messages were made public mostly by the Twitter account “Anti Botineras” (@anti_boti), which has more than 120,000 followers.

Sure, Darín is amazing, and has the uncanny ability to hurl insults better than perhaps nay human alive. Below, Europress added another ranking, written seemingly out of thin air by one of its own journalists of the best 25 actors in current time, in which Darin placed 12th. Others pinned the blame on Europress itself, saying it had later modified its information to clarify who had written which list. Without checking the source of the info, the outlet called Darín to get his reaction to the (faux) news. It’s a minor issue, but reveals how (badly) journalism is carried out in Argentina today.”

Shortly after President Mauricio Macri took office, there was lots of hubub when he decided to travel to on commercial airliners. Macri is set to travel to China today, with a convenient stopover in Qatar, for the G-20 summit (which will be held on September 4-5) and will be doing the whole thing via private jet alongside First Lady Juliana Awada. Leaving On A [Private] Jet PlaneMacri will be traveling the long distance to Qatar and China on a private jet (a Gulf Stream 650) belonging to the businessman Eduardo Eurnekian, one of the richest Argentine executives who leads Corporación América. Sheikh Tamim visited Argentina in late July, when he met with Macri at the presdiential residence in Olivos. China, with its massive population, benefits from Argentina’s agricultural business, but there was a bilateral trade deficit of US$5 billion in 2015.

Macri didn’t outline any concrete initiatives. The big message was of optics, to put forward an image of unity with the presence of several key governors and, no doubt the star of the show, Supreme Court Chief Justice Ricardo Lorenzetti. In 2009, the Supreme Court declared that detaining people for possession of illegal substances was unconstitutional. But dealers, of course, are the lowest rung in the illegal drug business. This increased pursuit of consumers is coming at a time when Macri’s administration has made it clear there are no plans to decriminalize drug possession.

Tuesday, August 30, 2016 Emotions laid bare as embattled leader defends her mandateBRASILIA — As she faced the architects of her political destitution yesterday, Dilma Rousseff remained defiant, casting a figure reminiscent of her younger guerilla fighter self, during the impeachment trial to oust her as president of Brazil. Rousseff claims she is being unjustly accused of breaking fiscal rules in her management of the federal budget, an impeachable offence accourding to the Constitution. As they resumed, the suspended president sat to receive questions from 40 senators. Rousseff though remained relaxed, at times smiling and always with an answer to the senators’ inquisitions. Because of their long friendship, Aníbal said he supported Rousseff in the presidency until around 2012.

Tuesday, August 30, 2016 Plots or paranoia? Just as anything possibly involving rogue intelligence tends to be automatically linked to the ex-spymaster Antonio “Jaime, Stiuso, there is a similar school of journalism which attributes any sign of unrest to a Kirchnerite destabilization campaign. Thus a weekend columnist included among his evidence for the bid to undermine the government both the Moreno squatters and the Patagonian fruit-growers giving away their produce in Plaza de Mayo. Again the sympathies of the federal judge granting an injunction against the gas bill increases with the Legitimate Justice grouping are presented as clear proof of Kirchnerite sabotage. To these, a comprehensive economic plan is the only real answer, not the distractions of conspiracy theories.

President Mauricio Macri once again made reference to the deep political divide in Argentine society and called on everyone to unite to move the country forward. “The way is not through attacks or fighting, but rather through dialogue.” In other words: Zzzzzzz. It wasn’t what Macri said that was interesting though, it was where he said it: a factory for Manaos. The Argentine company that managed to squeeze itself into the competitive soft-drink market through low prices and a self-aware, self-deprecating humor that would make Louis CK proud, is already part of Argentine pop culture. The catchphrase “Vamos, Manaos!” (Go Manaos!)

Revelations that a Buenos Aires City legislator for President Mauricio Macri’s Republican Proposal (PRO), Mercedes de las Casas, and her mother wrote a book that is, um, more than a little controversial to say the least. Who is De Las Casas? She is a City legislator for the PRO and began her political career in 2003 at the Ministry of the Environment and Public Spaces. Just last week,Vice President Gabriela Michetti’s domestic employee testified that she received a monthly salary of 4,000 pesos for eight hours of work, 5 days a week.
