Kang said while North Korea needs a spy satellite to improve its monitoring of South Korea, the launch is also aimed at bolstering its long-range missile program. He said the North would likely launch the satellite before Nov. 30, when South Korea plans to launch its first military spy satellite from California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base. Kang didn’t explicitly say what retaliatory steps South Korea could take if North Korea makes a third launch. He said South Korea’s aerial reconnaissance designed to monitor North Korea’s forward-deployed artillery guns has been significantly restricted by the 2018 deal. AdvertisementYoon’s liberal rivals said the suspension of the 2018 deal would provide North Korea with yet another excuse to launch provocations.

The security services of the Moroccan southern city of Dakha arrested last Thursday an extremist affiliated to “Daesh” (ISIS). The operation, conducted in close coordination with the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance (DGST), is part of the ongoing security efforts aimed at countering the terrorist organizations’ threats to the Kingdom’s security and to the safety of its citizens. According to the ongoing investigation, the 23-year-old arrested individual, a native of the town of El Hajeb, pledged allegiance to the so-called emir of the “Daesh” terrorist organization and was actively involved in preparing terrorist plans aimed at seriously undermining the security of individuals and public order, a DGST press release said on Saturday. The suspect was taken into custody for judicial investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism cases, with a view to revealing the nature of his terrorist plans and identifying any links he may have in Morocco or abroad. This security operation illustrates, once again, the resurgence of terrorist threats facing the Kingdom, in light of the persistence of individuals imbued with extremist ideology, vulnerable to calls for incitement by terrorist organizations.

NAIROBI, Kenya — At least 32 people, including a U.N. peacekeeper, were killed Sunday following heavy fighting in the disputed Abyei administrative region, an area claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan, authorities said. Local media reported that the civilians and a Ghanaian soldier serving with a peacekeeping force died when unknown gunmen attacked two villages in southern Abyei. The peacekeeping mission there condemned the troop deployment, saying it would create ”untold suffering and humanitarian concerns” for civilians. International solders were sent to Aleel and Rum Ameer counties as part of the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei to help quell the growing conflict. The deal called for both sides to settle the final status of Abyei through negotiations, but it has never been implemented.

This closure is the ninth among the twelve camps they have in the country, according to a statement published on social media. The camp was handed over to the Malian authorities, represented by the Prefect of Ansongo, by the head of the Minusma office in Gao, the largest city in northern Mali. #PressRelease - After ten years of presence, MINUSMA closes its base in #Ansongo. The separatist groups are opposed to Minusma handing over the camps to the Malian authorities, which they say goes against the agreements reached in 2014 and 2015 when they agreed to cease fire. Nevertheless, on Tuesday, the Malian army announced that it had taken Kidal, a town in northern Mali, from Tuareg separatists, after years of absence from this strategic territory that has become a major sovereignty issue for the central state.
