Analytics company Wisesight used its Zocial Eye tools to collect data from social media users in Thailand between November 1 and 16. The top five trending topics related to Apec were:1. Popular topics included Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s positive Covid test, and US President Joe Biden not attending the summit in Bangkok. Special holidays during Apec Summit week, at 1,345,202 engagements. Popular topics included the removal of electricity poles on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and the renovation of roads and sidewalks to prepare for the summit.

Apec summit ends in Bangkok with 3 unexpected joint statements
The traditional joint Leaders' Declaration was accompanied by the Ministerial Joint Statement, as well as the Bangkok Goal Declaration on Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG). In their declaration, leaders committed to implementing the Apec Putrajaya Vision 2040 agreed last year, under this year’s summit theme of "Open, Connect, Balance". The official statement said it was important to promote a trade and investment environment that is free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, inclusive and predictable. Leaders said they will also cooperate for safe and seamless cross-border travel within the region following the Covid-19 pandemic. We will cooperate on facilitating the flow of data, and strengthening business and consumer trust in digital transactions," the statement said.

2023 Apec summit in US will also focus on sustainability: Godec

The meetings finalized matters of discussion from this year's senior officials' meetings and drafted them into documents to be presented to APEC leaders for their consideration and approval. Attended by 21 APEC Senior Officials, the first two sessions focused on trade and investment issues under APEC 2022's priority of "Open to All Opportunities" as well as seamless connectivity in both the physical and digital realms under the priority of "Connect in All Dimensions". Highlighted by the officials were the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), APEC Economic Policy Report 2022, the APEC Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap (AIDER) and APEC Safe Passage Taskforce's recommendations. Both the FTAAP multi-year work plan and APEC Safe Passage Taskforce's recommendations have been underlined as key deliverables of Thailand's APEC host year. The third CSOM session on Wednesday, 16 November, 2022, centered on the "Balance in All Aspects" priority, in particular, the latest status of the draft Bangkok Goals on BCG Economy to be submitted to APEC Ministers for consideration and APEC Leaders for endorsement.

The Chinese leader is scheduled to meet PM Prayut to discuss a range of topics at Government House after the summit wraps up, according to the Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry. Among the topics on their meeting agenda is closer bilateral economic ties on the 10th anniversary of the two countries’ strategic partnership this year. The two leaders are expected to discuss economic cooperation between Thailand and China, particularly in industries with high potential, such as electric vehicle manufacturing. Both countries have agreed to promote more air travel and recovery of high-quality tourism, in addition to education, culture, media and information.
