Stockholm: The names of scientists who will receive the Nobel Prize in Physics 2024 have been announced. According to the announcement of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, this year’s Nobel Prize was awarded to American scientist John Hopefield, who provided the foundations of artificial intelligence, and British Canadian computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton. Both researchers worked on machine learning techniques that later became such power products as ChatGPT. In addition to his expertise in machine learning, Geoffrey Hinton, Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, is also known for his opposition to these technologies. Speaking at the ceremony in Sweden, Professor Geoffrey said that he had no idea that this would happen.

Govt refuses subsidy on sugar export
Pakistan has refused to provide subsidies on the export of sugar to Tajikistan, as requested by the latter. The government has allowed the export of 40,000 metric tonnes (MT) of sugar to Tajikistan, and Tajikistan was expecting a subsidy on this export. Sources said that the government warned sugar millers that the export of sugar would be revoked if they did not pay dues to sugarcane growers. During the discussion on the export of 0.1 million tonnes of sugar, the Ministry of Industries and Production assured the ECC that sufficient sugar stocks were available until the start of the new crushing season. Therefore, the proposal to export 0.1 MMT of sugar was a safe and secure option.

Mumbai: Famous Bollywood actor and producer Ajay Devgan has revealed that he burnt his face on seeing Madhuri Dixit for the first time. The actor recounted a memorable story of how in 2001, during the shooting of the film ‘Yeh Rasti Hain Pyaar Ke’, seeing Madhuri Dixit, he accidentally put a cigarette on his face which burnt his face. Ajay Devgn said that when Madhuri Dixit entered the room, she was looking so beautiful that he stopped looking at her and instead of smoking, he put his cigarette on his mouth, burning his face. PTI’s absence from MPC on Palestine exposes its real face: Senator Siddiqui
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui on Monday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) refusal to participate in the multi- party conference (PPC) on Palestine has exposed not only its “true face but also real soul” of the party. “PTI’s refusal to attend the MPC for expressing solidarity with the Palestinian brethren suffering under Israeli oppression has unveiled its true nature,” Senator Siddiqui said in a statement posted on X. Criticizing the PTl, Senator Siddiqui said those who engage in false propaganda about their “imaginary” rights do not see the blood-soaked streets of Gaza and the innocent children dying from hunger. He sought that PTI should clarify to the nation about the reasons behind its absence and tell whether they did not want to offend someone that they are reluctant to raise their voice for the rights of Palestinians.

Traffic returns to normal in Islamabad after protests
ISLAMABAD - Traffic in Islamabad has returned to normal, with all major roads now open following earlier disruptions due to protests. The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have confirmed that routes across the city are operational. According to an ITP statement, SSP Traffic along with all traffic officers are present on the roads to ensure smooth traffic flow. Traffic officers are actively engaged in maintaining the flow of traffic and assisting citizens. California: WhatsApp users who are bored with the dark green theme of the chat, the app is now introducing a feature that will allow users to add their favorite color to their chats. Meta’s subsidiary instant messaging app WhatsApp is going to update specific chat themes to introduce a feature to choose a chat theme in 20 different colors. With this new feature available in WhatsApp for iOS 24.20.71 update, users will get access to 22 different themes and 20 colors which will significantly expand their customization options. KMU conducts 2nd centralised admission test
Peshawar - Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar organised the second Centralised Admission Test on Sunday for admissions to various disciplines, including Pharm-D, DPT, BS Nursing, and BS Allied Health Sciences. The test was conducted at 16 examination centres across 13 cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a total of 26,993 candidates participating.
