Azam allegedly further advised Imran to hold a meeting with then foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the foreign secretary. Azam purportedly elaborated that they needed to do this so that the matter was on the record. He then suggested that Imran should call the foreign secretary so the issue could also be on the bureaucratic record. “We don’t have a copy so how did they pick it up?” Azam purportedly questioned.

Syracuse place-kicker Andre Szmyt decided last December that he wasn’t going to return for his final year of eligibility. Last season, Syracuse’s special teams were coached by committee and Szmyt slumped, making just nine of 14 field goal attempts. “I felt like I needed a coach who could kind of direct me in the right way if things weren’t going as planned and I didn’t really have that. Now that we have someone, it’s really helpful.”Szmyt, who also handles kickoffs, is nine of 10 on field goals this season, including another 50-yarder. For his career, Szmyt is 74 of 89 (83.15%) on field goals and 173 of 177 on extra points for 395 points.

photo: filePML-N’s second most powerful leader, and an experienced former finance minister, Ishaq Dar has returned to Pakistan after five years of self-exile. The business community has high hopes for Dar to be the next finance minister considering his experience, performance and track record in a similar position in the past. While Dar’s return has turned domestic business sentiment positive, weak economic fundamentals remain intact. Pakistan Business Council (PBC) CEO Ehsan Malik said Dar’s return has changed the local sentiment to positive for businesses. It is, however, learned that the change of finance minister is logical given that Ismail, who took charge as finance minister in April, was set to leave the position in October in any case.

The Army’s talks with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have remained shrouded in secrecy. For others in KP who had opposed the TTP and were on the hit list of the terrorist network any possibility of general amnesty for the TTP was a perturbing idea. In June a meeting on national security attended by the civil and military leadership, decided that the talks with the proscribed TTP would be held only under the framework of the Constitution. However secrecy continues to prevail regarding agreements reached with the terrorist network. Recently terrorist attacks have taken place in Swat, Mardan, North Waziristan South Waziristan and parts of Balochistan, like Harnai, bordering Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced constitution of a high-powered committee to investigate audio leaks allegedly featuring the conversation of the premier with the high-profile government officials and ruling party leader Maryam Nawaz. However, we did not consider it appropriate to take up this matter in the federal cabinet since the matter involves India. He also asked the media to highlight the content of audio leaks which exposed the corruption of “Imran and his cronies”. The announcement came a day after PM Shehbaz summoned the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on September 28 to discuss audio leaks.
