Iran toughens crackdown as some 'oil workers join protests'
While university students have played a pivotal role in the protests with dozens of universities on strike, unconfirmed reports on social media showed workers at Abadan and Kangan oil refineries and the Bushehr Petrochemical Project had joined in. Activists said on social media that several people, including two teenagers, were killed by security forces in the province. Blaming the protests on Iran's foreign foes, authorities said "rioters" have killed at least 20 members of the security forces. In spite of a harsh crackdown by security forces, protesters across Iran have burned pictures of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called for the downfall of the clerical establishment and chanted "Death to the Dictator". "Instead of dying every minute under this regime's repression, I prefer to die with their (security forces) bullets in protests for freedom."

MELBOURNE: England captain Jos Buttler declined to appeal against Australia’s Matthew Wade for obstructing the field in the series-opening T20 match in Perth on Sunday but said he might be less forgiving in the upcoming World Cup. The match was delicately poised with Australia needing 39 off 23 balls to win when Wade top-edged a short ball from Mark Wood into his helmet. If warming trends continue, the oceans could rise by nearly one additional meter (39 inches) around the Pacific and Indian Ocean islands by the end of the century. “The other thing that I argue is that statehood is a fiction, legal fiction we created for purposes of international law. Islamabad's Centaurus Mall fire brought under control
A fire erupted at the third floor of Centaurus Mall in Islamabad on October 09, 2022 / Photo: Screen-grabThe fire which erupted at Centaurus Mall in Islamabad was brought under control by the timely efforts of the rescue teams, Express News reported on Sunday. According to details, there is a light fire on the building's exterior which was extinguished and cooling is in progress. Senior police officials, including IG Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, administration officers and rescue teams are at the spot while an alternative plan has been issued to maintain the flow of traffic. The rescue teams safely pulled out the people trapped in the shopping mall from the back side of the building, after which the teams conducted a search operation inside the mall. The fire broke out at the Monal restaurant, sources revealed, adding that the entire food court was engulfed in flames.

He said that the UN is working to expand the deal, also known as the Black Sea Grain Initiative. "The Secretary‑General is spending a lot of time on the phone trying to unblock the places in various bureaucracies that are stopping this facilitated trade of Russian fertilizer and Russian grain," he added. Russian authorities have complained that Western sanctions hinder the country’s grain and fertilizer exports despite the deal. The deal was initially signed for 120 days and expires in November.

This year, various religious leaders across the country and world have appealed to the believers to observe the day as Namoos-e-Risalat day. Markazi Milad Committee and some other religious organisations have also been campaigning lately to ban certain objectionable practices in this year’s Eid Milad celebrations especially those that hurt the feelings of certain schools of thought. Victim shot 16 times, dies on West Side: police
A person who was shot about 16 times died Saturday morning in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Police found the person, only described as “male,” about 7:45 a.m. on a sidewalk in the 300 block of South Springfield Avenue, police said.
