On June 14, in a devastating incident off the coast of Greece, a boat carrying over 700 migrants capsized and resulted in a significant loss of life, as only few dozens could survive. The individuals on board were hopeful migrants who had embarked on this perilous journey in search of a better life in Europe. The question arises: why did these migrants, especially Pakistanis, choose to leave their homeland in the first place? Additionally, political instability, social unrest, and security concerns also push individuals to leave their home country in search of safety and stability elsewhere. As long as economic disparities, political instability, and social challenges persist in certain regions, people will continue to seek opportunities elsewhere.

According to a Foreign Office statement, Pakistan in the demarche raised objections to what it described as unwarranted, one-sided, and misleading references made in the joint statement. In an apparent bid to use the visit to further India’s agenda against Islamabad, a joint statement issued by the two heads of state late on Thursday called on Pakistan to crack down on extremists that target New Delhi. The statement called for action against extremist groups based in Pakistan such as the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. Reacting to the statement, the Foreign Office (FO) had termed the joint US-India statement “misleading and unwarranted”, saying that the “reference is contrary to diplomatic norms and has political overtones”. The joint US-India statement was issued against Pakistan after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Joe Biden a day earlier.

islamabad - Health expert Dr Arif Mehmood Sunday advised citizens to avoid excessive exertion or exercise in hot weather and urged to drink plenty of water that would help in the alleviation of heat in the body. Dr Arif suggested that sprinkling water on the clothes could also help dissipate the heat. Light-coloured, and loose clothing should be worn in this weather, instead of tight dark clothing, to allow for sweating and dispersion of heat. Wearing sunscreen, and using a wide-brimmed hat or cap can also protect the face and skin from the effects of heat and sun damage. “Drink water even if you are not thirsty it will have a protective effect on the body,” he added.

Demographically, Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan by area. Balochistan has a population of 12.34 million, comprising just 5.94% of the total population (207.77 million) of Pakistan. The province seems to be the most underdeveloped province in Pakistan, with the citizens struggling to meet their basic needs. Most of the well-skilled residents of Balochistan with professional degrees are jobless, because of which they resort to illegal activities. The government seldom announces jobs for the residents of Balochistan, which are again confined to specific sectors.

ISLAMABAD - International Day of the Seafarer will be marked on June 25 (Sunday) across the globe as a way to recognize that almost everything that we use in our daily lives has been directly or indirectly affected by sea transport. According to IMO’s estimates, ships transport almost 90 percent of the world’s goods trade. Seafarers are not only responsible for the operations of such ships but also for the safe and smooth delivery of the cargo. The day not only acknowledges the invaluable work of seafarers but also aims to bring global attention to the issues affecting their work and lives, such as piracy. Since 2011, the IMO has taken the celebration of the Day of the Seafarer online, calling for the public to use social media such as Facebook and Twitter, to voice their support for seafarers and to thank them for their work.

The Wagner Group, a private military contractor with ties to the Kremlin, has been influential in conflicts like Syria and Ukraine. If the Wagner Group operates independently, it could complicate Russia’s strategic calculations and undermine its deniability in conflicts. Private military contractors like the Wagner Group operate outside international law and accountability, posing risks of violence, human rights abuses, and regional destabilization. To address these issues, international mechanisms should regulate private military contractors. International regulation is crucial to mitigate risks and protect human rights in conflicts involving private military contractors.
