Sinkholes formed on the roads due to ongoing rains have disrupted traffic flow across the provincial capital. In Gawalmandi, an under-construction road gave way while a car was passing it following the rain on Saturday. The north-eastern Indian state of Manipur shares borders with Myanmar to the east and south. The current strategic crisis in Indian North East, especially Manipur stems from the Meitei people’s long-standing quest for Scheduled Tribe designation under the Indian Constitution, which would grant them rights similar to those enjoyed other tribal communities. The Sindh government should launch an annual tree-planting drive to help sensitise people about the importance of maintaining green spaces and combating illegal logging in urban and semi-urban areas. Green spaces play a crucial role in combating climate change and heatwaves and should be cherished as an integral part of life in cities and towns. Furthermore, municipal authorities must impose harsher penalties on those engaged in chopping down trees that are part of public parks and other protected green spaces. SAIM BIN SALEEM,Karachi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar led the “gang of conspirators” against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif. The next prime minister will be Nawaz Sharif. “Imran Niazi was made the prime minister through rigged polls, with malfunctioning of RTS and the PML-N was deprived of its seats”, he added. The prime minister sneered that contrary to PTI chief’s tall claims for a vast network of public welfare projects, nothing tangible could be witnessed. The prime minister said if the people gave mandate to the PML-N in the next general elections, Nawaz Sharif would be the prime minister and under his guidance, he would work as an ordinary worker.

Training camp is officially underway, and it is now time to make my latest prediction on what the 2023 Detroit Lions‘ 53-man roster will look when training camp concludes. 2023 Detroit Lions 53-man roster predictionQuarterbacks (2)Jared GoffTeddy BridgewaterI maintain my prediction that the Lions will sign free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater as a backup for Jared Goff in 2023. There is a chance as the Detroit Lions did open the season with four tight ends in 2022. For now, I am going with three tight ends on the initial 2023 Detroit Lions 53-man roster. As always, we are sure there will be a surprise or two on the initial 53-man roster.

The reported undiplomatic sermon from Afghan Taliban, urging Islamabad to engage the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in talks is nothing but a tactic to deviate public opinion. Moreover, Kabul also understands that it is in a pledge with the international community to persuade the TTP to not use its soil for nefarious activities, and to exterminate all such elements. Thus, the lecture to take to the table seems to be a friendly gesture more towards the TTP, then actually addressing the menace of cross-border terrorism. This new stunt from the Taliban will surely be contested by Pakistan, and the regional states alike. This is the reason Pakistan’s civil and military leadership had called it a day, and resolved not to engage anymore with such dreaded entities.
