Imran faces 36 cases in ECP, Lahore & Islamabad
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan faces a whopping number of 36 cases currently pending against him in various courts of Islamabad, Lahore and in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). So, while bail is pending in two cases, Imran can be arrested if it is turned down in any one of them. Except for two cases, Imran is on bail in all the other cases. Three defamation cases are pending in the sessions court of Islamabad, including one filed by Imran against Khawaja Asif. In this case, Imran is accused of not declaring his alleged daughter Tyrian White in the 2018 nomination papers.

Imran urges judiciary to protect fundamental rights
Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday urged the judiciary to protect the fundamental rights of party members and citizens of Pakistan, asking the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial to "draw a line" somewhere. Imran Khan said that the unidentified people told Javed's wife that they would make an obscene video of her husband if he did not give statement against Dar. The PTI chief said that many social media workers belonging to the party were also taken into custody and were subjected to severe torture. Lashing out at the incumbent government, Imran Khan said that they should not be considered politicians but mafia. He urged the CJP to take suo motu on the treatment meted out to Javed, saying that it was the duty of judiciary to protect the fundamental rights of citizens.

Two die in Islamabad flyover pillar collapse
Two labourers lost their lives while three others suffered injuries when the pillar of an under-construction flyover in the Bhara Kahu area collapsed. A total of six labourers were working on the pillar when it collapsed, burying them under the rubble. The Islamabad police said on its official Twitter handle that three workers who were pulled out of the rubble had been shifted to the Islamabad Polyclinic Hospital. On the other hand, Islamabad chief commissioner formed an eight-member inquiry committee comprising Islamabad DC Memon, Islamabad Traffic SSP Tanweer, CDA Engineering member, and Nespak representative to conduct an investigation into the incident. The inquiry team will also comprise one representative each from the Islamabad and Rawalpindi rescue teams.

Pakistani, Turkish people are one nation, says envoy
Share:ISLAMABAD - Ambassador of Türkiye to Pakistan, Dr. Mehmet Paçac, has said that Pakistan and Türkiye have never been like two countries but rather have always behaved like one nation. On the occasion, Ambassador Paçac met with CEO of Centaurus Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan along with Country Head in Pakistan, Muhammad Sohail Sajid. The Turkish Ambassador said Pakistan and the Pakistani nation did not leave their Turkish brothers and sisters alone in these difficult times; they started relief process immediately after the earthquake, the Pakistani government, the Armed Forces, and the civilian efforts of Pakistan are commendable. He said that the entire Pakistani nation, including teams from PIA, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), universities and their students, media are all standing by the side of Türkiye. The Turkish ambassador said that the restoration and reconstruction work has started in Türkiye after the earthquake, the situation is getting worse due to the cold weather and the problems of the victims are increasing.

Regional repercussions
The US-led North then directed its wrath towards the Taliban-led Afghanistan because of Kabul’s support to Al Qaeda. Osama bin Laden had been hosted by the Taliban who refused to hand him over to the Americans despite Pakistan’s insistence. However, the top Taliban leaders including Mullah Omer could not be targeted immediately and some of them crossed into neighbouring countries including Pakistan. Since Pakistan had sided with the US-led NATO, which ended the Taliban state, the latter was otherised, too. In 2007, these elements organised themselves into what is now known as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) under Baitullah Mehsud.

CTD busts seven TTP-militants from Lahore, other cities
LAHORE: The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department on Saturday claimed to have captured seven terrorists, said to be affiliated with outlawed TTP from Lahore and other cities of the province. A spokesperson for the CTD told media on Saturday that the CTD launched an operation following credible information about the presence of terrorists and managed to arrest seven terrorists from Lahore and other cities. He said that the captured terrorists belonged to the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He informed the CTD has arrested 80 suspects during 423 combing operations conducted this week across Punjab. “The CTD Punjab is on the forefront in the fight against terrorism,” he concluded.

Pakistan reports 42 coronavirus cases, two deaths in 24 hours
Share:Pakistan has reported two deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 1,576,880. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 30,643 on Saturday. According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 42 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 5,019 tests in the past 24 hours out of which 42 persons were tested positive for the disease. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 0.
