That bluff of India to call itself the protector of democracy and human rights has earned it an international reputation and voice. - Advertisement -Policy of Bluff is a concept used by Hans J. Morgenthau in his book, Politics Among Nations, where he defines the policy of bluff as a tool for states to gain prestige and power. While the bluff is played at the international level by the Modi regime to be the protector of human rights, the story is parallel within India. The so-called protectors of human rights had been the cruellest human rights violators, with the atrocities carried out in IOK. This incident was one of the most brutal depictions of human rights violations with targeted killings, arson, looting, rape, and brutal torture.

The process can only start once the Council of Common Interests approves the census results for notification. The last census was late, being conducted in 2017, instead of 2009, and this census is early, because they are supposed to be conducted at ten-year intervals, making one not due until 2027. Even in 2018, the census results had not yet been notified (something only done by the PTI government after the federal government agreed to conduct a fresh census). - Advertisement -If the current government does not notify the census result, the caretakers might. It is to be hoped that no excuse is found to do the same for national polls.

This condemnation is not isolated but rather extends to other acts of violence that have recently plagued Pakistan. During a joint press conference, the Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman labeled the perpetrators of these heinous acts as criminals, unequivocally dissociating their actions from Islam and Muslims. The unanimous condemnation and consensus expressed by Ulema from various schools of thought is not only commendable but also encouraging. In a war that involves battling narratives, their unified voice plays a crucial role in countering extremist ideologies. Appreciating and highlighting this consensus is vital because it demonstrates the unity embedded within the Muslim community’s rejection of these acts of terrorism.

The borrowing from commercial banks, however, was significantly lower than the auction target of Rs160 billion as banks were seeking higher returns on extending financing to the state. The government on Wednesday borrowed almost the entire amount, ie Rs70.76 billion, through the sale of three-year PIBs at 19.32% rate of return. The return could have gone significantly higher had the auction target of Rs160 billion been met. The government cannot directly borrow from the central bank and is bound to acquire financing from commercial banks under the IMF loan conditions. Central bank lending through the printing of new currency notes has been a major cause of high inflation in the country.

It is good to see that the government is set on dissolving assemblies so that procedures for holding the elections can begin. Earlier, the government had denied the possibility of holding elections as per the latest census because the results had not been notified, and a few irreconcilable differences remained. The activity was conducted for the good of the public, and to ensure that the next elections would be more representative. Given that most members of the opposition have resigned from the National Assembly also presents issues of its own. This is something that the government cannot afford, especially after promises of timely elections.
