Extremely hot and humid but dry weather continues affecting most parts of Pakistan even in mid-September after scanty rains in August and best half of the current month helped temperatures rise well-above average. In fact, today (September 14) is the last day of Bhadon – one of the months of seasons-based local calendar followed in the Subcontinent – which marks not only the end of monsoon season but also summers. In local folklore, Assu – the month following Bhadon which starts on September 15 (Friday) – represents the birth of winters with cooler nights and a sufficient drop in highs as well. However, there is no sign of any change yet. Despite the notoriously wrong weather prediction in recent years, the current unbearable hot and humid weather makes to believe in the words of Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) which says the simultaneous effects of the two weather systems will bring rain and thunderstorm with wind in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and upper parts of KhyberPakhtunkhwa and Punjab from September 15 to 20 with occasional gaps.

Samreen Amir is an established individual who has proved to be an integral police officer. With countless successful raids and investigations, she has strived to create an environment that supports voiceless and vulnerable women. Her promotion is an accolade that is truly deserved, and will undoubtedly uplift not only women, but the Christian community as well. Beyond this even, having a woman SHO transforms police stations into safe spaces that women view to be accessible and empathetic to their complaints.

In an apparent jibe at former coalition partner Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Wednesday that no one knows when the general elections are supposed to be held but a “certain party” already has this information. The proposal came following the PTI’s, the party to which Dr Alvi belongs, insistence that the president immediately reveal the election date. “No one knows when the elections are supposed to be held, not me, or the chief election commissioner, but a certain party is repeatedly announcing elections in February next year. This is the reason I talk about level playing field,” Bilawal said while addressing party workers in Muzaffargarh. He said that the party will devise its strategy regarding the elections in its CEC meeting, scheduled in Lahore for tomorrow.

The G20 Conference, which brings together the top 20 economies in the world, recently took an unexpected turn when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested relegation of India to ‘Bharat.’ Political leaders, opposition parties, and intelligentsia within India and beyond reacted differently to this move, which has stirred national and international apprehensions. The dispute started when summit invitations referred to the nation as “Bharat” rather than the traditional “India.” India’s renaming to Bharat has long been a topic of discussion. Some people believed that the government was making an effort to gradually change the name of the nation from “India” to “Bharat.” Given the Modi government’s prior efforts to separate India from what it viewed as leftovers of British colonial control, this notion was not wholly without merit. INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) was founded in July by the leaders of 26 opposition parties in India with the primary goal of taking on Prime Minister Modi in the forthcoming general election in 2024. The change from “Bharat” to “Akhand Bharat” represents a comprehensive vision with consequences that go beyond India’s national boundaries.

In response to protests against high electricity bills, the government is cracking down on electricity theft, with millions of units stolen across the country. While this crackdown provides short-term relief, experts emphasise the need for structural reforms in the power sector. A report highlights that power companies lack modern tools to combat theft, and line losses due to various issues further exacerbate the problem. Despite plans to hand over distribution companies (DISCOs) to provinces, resistance persists, burdening taxpayers. To ensure lasting solutions, the government must invest in energy distribution, reduce line losses, and control theft.

I think it is probably one of the funniest, if not the funniest, show ever written,” Skaggs said. “It’s comparable in some ways to ‘Noises Off,’ where you kind of get the feel of the backstage workings of a show. “This is probably the most complex set that ACTA has ever had for a show,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a really high-quality production,” Skaggs said.

The government on Tuesday feared oil crisis as retail outlets of some oil marketing companies (OMCs) were reportedly found dry at a few locations in the country. Sources said that the country had enough stocks of oil as big oil companies like Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Shell were maintaining sufficient stocks. Therefore, the petroleum dealers have started hoarding oil stocks to make inventory gains. The government will pay this amount to the oil companies during the next revision of oil prices. Therefore, the oil companies regarding the exchange loss did not seem to justify their stance as they faced a loss of Rs10 per litre on diesel and gained Rs18 per litre due to recent increase in oil prices.
