KARACHI: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Monday signed a new agreement for its Roosevelt Hotel in the United States of America to generate revenue of approximately $5.4 million annually. According to sources, the PIA has entered into a new agreement with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation for its Roosevelt Hotel in the USA. The American firm has also reached a settlement agreement with the union of the Roosevelt Hotel. It is worth noting that the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) administration had sought a response from the PIA administration regarding the matter of the Roosevelt Hotel in the United States. Headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the ECC also endorsed the withdrawal of lawsuits and reached a $56 million settlement deal with the sacked employees of the Roosevelt Hotel, New York.

The revelation made in the documents of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, stating that despite suffering from acute malnutrition, four billion dollars’ worth of food is wasted in Pakistan every year, is undoubtedly a matter of concern for the entire Pakistani nation. According to the published newspaper report, about 26 percent of the annual domestic production, which amounts to more than a quarter of food, is wasted in Pakistan. This food is wasted due to various reasons, including fresh food that does not meet the criteria of shape, size, and color, substandard food identified during the sorting process in factories, and expired food being discarded. According to the Ministry of Food Security, the largest amount of food wastage occurs in our kitchens and catering centers. Leftover food from excessive preparation is wasted, but proactive measures can be taken to arrange its delivery to those in need, thereby avoiding wastage.

The nation celebrated Youm-e-Takbeer, the anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear tests, on Sunday, renewing their pledge to make the country stronger with the same determination shown 25 years ago. To commemorate the day, the country’s leadership paid rich tribute to the political and military leadership of that time for taking a wise decision. Amid slogans of “Allah-o-Akbar”, Pakistan conducted its nuclear tests at the Ras Koh hills in the Chaghai district of Balochistan on May 28, 1998 in response to India’s nuclear tests two weeks before that day. Felicitating the nation on the silver jubilee of the tests, President Arif Alvi said Pakistan’s nuclear tests were essential for maintaining the balance of power in the region.
